Reviews for What I Don't Like About You
Guest chapter 55 . 7/20
This left a bitter taste in my mouth Don’t put Zutara if they don’t end up together
Marvelqueen13 chapter 1 . 7/15
I saw a review saying katara and aang end up together. Why would I fucking bother I’m not gonna read this now
God chapter 55 . 7/13
What a f**king waste of time
Guest chapter 55 . 7/8
“ the physical part of her relationship with aang (because as a twelve-year-old he is completely pathetic at this” you are a dumb cunt and I hope you stay dead. Fuck you!
Ami chapter 55 . 7/3
Thank God I always read the ending first, I won't have to waste my time on a 50 chapter story only to have the ending be so crappy it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. It makes zero sense to me why you wrote "Zutara" in the description, but had Katara end up with Aang. ️
jay.dubs.5912 chapter 18 . 6/26
I think this could have been a fantastic episode!
Guest chapter 19 . 6/14
Oh my god this is so unbelievably good! Such a rich and impressive story line that goes much further than zutara but actually seeks to expand upon our meager 3rd season with zuko with the crew. This is exactly what I've been missing and its filling a void in me that I didnt realize I'd been craving so badly! And oh my gosh the build up between zuko and katara while staying true to the characters and the story is unbelievably good and frankly impressively done. Totally wowed and flabbergasted by you and your work! Thanks so much for sharing this masterpiece! Let me know if you write books on the outside because I am a fan!
alyesa30 chapter 11 . 6/8
Ugh, I really like this story but Katara is so ridiculously annoying that I have to give up on this one. She just keeps getting worse and worse, lol. Bummer because I absolutely love how you wrote Zuko.
Doctor Dave chapter 55 . 6/5
This was an excellently written fic. the twists and turns, the emotional rollercoaster, i loved it all. so excited to start kn the sequel! great job! I can tell you really love writing!
Hannah chapter 55 . 5/27
Mmmmm I’m mixed on this fic. Well, first of all it’s the bittersweet for the sake of just being bittersweet ending after all that buildup and canon divergence to lead towards nothing and it is so unsatisfying. Then there’s how Zuko kills Yon Rha in some twisted “romantic” protective gesture towards Katara is something I WILL criticize most especially. This is why I don’t like Reylo and why so many people hate it when it’s compared to Zutara. Zuko is not some ‘dark gritty dangerous’ bad boy. He’s really just a good boi. That’s why when Bryke compared MAKO from LoK to Zuko, Mako failed to recapture the popularity (and puberty catalyst effect lol) Zuko did. Zuko shows mercy to Zhao TWICE in season 1 (he even tries to save Zhao from the ocean spirit) and what I like about the parallels between Zuko and Katara is their shared trauma over their mothers, which is the thing that leads them to bond in the first place in Ba Sing Se and what leads Katara to forgiving Zuko for helping her get closure like him. When Zuko confronts his father (the man responsible for his mother‘s disappearing) during the invasion Zuko could’ve easily killed him with lightning redirection but didn’t.

I’ve had my favorite fan fiction for a while but this is really a work of art. My mew favorite.
misadani1 chapter 1 . 5/6
I have no idea if you'll ever see this, and I really hope you guys do.

Okay, so I've rewatched a:tla because Quarantine and it made me remember this gorgeous, well-written, detailed, and expansive story.

I don't care what the people who can't get over the fact that Zuko and Katara didn't end up together. I find them petty and pathetic for shouting abuse. And frankly, you guys shouldn't care either.

Not when you have this amazing work of love that you cared for your fans enough to fi ish after a long hiatus- a hiatus filled with happiness and love, congratulations again by the way.

I remember back in 2016 being so excited and happy when we briefly corresponded, mostly because I'm glad my reviews and reactions were being read by and enjoyed by two of my favorite authors.

I've mentioned I finished legend of Aang. Just this night, in fact. And I'm starting to reread again. This story is so amazing in that in fills in the gaps story wise that the writers couldnt put in because of running time or because they just didn't think to prioritize it, and made it possible for Katara and Zuko to truly develop the connection they had canon-wise, and expanded it in ways they would have learned about each other's strengths and weaknesses, their passions and fears, their hopes and despairs, the people they hold in their heart.

I love that you didn't discredit Mai and Aang. Two people Zuko and Katara genuinely love and care about. Mai and Aang were different things that both Zuko and Katara needed at the moment. Mai, being representative of the life Zuko yearned for before he went through everything that made him Zuko. Aang being the hope Katara always held on to, before she learned hope was inside herself. Despite that, those two are just so kick-ass in their own right. I love that you respected their character integrity.

The boiling rock arc showed Zuko first hand the effect of Katara's words of hopes, and how deep her compassion runs. Katara saw how Zuko truly loves his country, down to the lowliest criminals, how he would give his body and soul to protect the nation he was born to rule.
By the end they were friends, much more than Zuko ever realized they could be- and he didn't know how she got there, but she had etched a place in his heart. I also love the terrifying aspects of that prison life. You really gave the Boiling Rock the reputation it deserved.

Hakoda and their hunting trip really gave Hakoda more agency as well, and gave Zuko a chance to understand his growing feelings, as well as show us Sokka didn't completely get over Yue, which is understandable.

The puppetmaster arc? Dear God, that was a nice touch. It gave the GAang more time with Zuko, as well as show the darker side of that ep. Again, it filled in the gaps more.

The Southern Raiders arc was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I LOVE the flashback to zuko's darker past. The fact that Yhon rah would go after them in a cowardly way is exactly what he would do. I know people give Zuko a lot of flack for this ep, making Katara turn dark, focusing on vengeance, while others hate Aang for not understanding, for equating her pain to his. But, really, this darkness was always inside Katara all along. Her moral ambiguity has always been a part of her. She needed this, with or without Zuko's help. Zuko gave her the release she needed, and it was ultimately her choice to take it. Aang would always be the moral voice, something I love about him. Those Zutara moments? Gah so adorable.

Ember Island Arc? Yaaaas Katara finally realized her feelings for him. Who wouldn't? The kissssessssss. My heart

After all these, I love that you gave more details to the White Lotus. It was genius how you wrote about them finding it, the different ways to get in the base depending on the 4 elements, the reunion between zuko and iroh, the camaraderie and the Love and Laughter before the actual War. God, that dark part about the tragic fate of the Kyoshi Warrior? Gave me chills.
Thank you for bringing back Guru Pathik, it didn't sit well with me how his arc just ended there, he was meant for more as Aang's spiritual guide and you gave it to me satisfyingly.

Then the battle. Fleshing out the individual roles of the characters, something I genuinely appreciate because the original couldn't give it, through no fault of their own. It was already a massive episode.

I'm already making this super long, but I just can't express how much this story means to me.

I suppose my only sadness was that they never did get together here. And I would have preferred seeing Katara being on her own more, establishing herself on her own terms independently in this moment of peace in the world rather than choosing Aang out of a fear of losing herself with zuko, cuz, to be honest, she would also lose parts of herself with aang anyway. It felt incredibly unfair to zuko. But unlike others, I don't begrudge you for your choice. I just genuinely hope for a Zutara ending in WIALAY, that is, if you continue. Hoping you will.

Anyway, unlike others, I will definitely re read in the future.

Love you guys so much for this.
Izchicuautli chapter 55 . 4/22
I haven’t been this disappointed about a fic in so long. Thank your for your amazing writing but what a wasteful ending. Everything you worked to build up just shattered without purpose. It’s kind of like those stories that have a plot twist just because you think the drama will make it better. There was absolutely no sane reasoning to that ending and it made the rest of a wonderfully written story not worth reading.

Regardless, thank you for the read. Unfortunately, it’s not something I’d recommend or even reread, despite the fantastic writing style.
QueenOfWS chapter 55 . 4/22
This. Was. Amazing. Honestly, I never thought about reading Zutara fanfiction until recently, but in a couple of the other stories, the endings felt weird (although I really don’t have that much experience reading them). I see some of the other comments on this story saying they didnt like the ending, and I guess I can understand that. But personally? I think it was absolutely beautiful. It just made sense. Anything else would have seemed... forced? I think people just don’t always see the amazingness a story about a first love can bring. And I actually cried I got so emotional, which proves it’s amazing.

Way to lie to your readers. Please update your character selections. You made Katara a heartless bitch.
