Best story I have ever read

I'm enjoying this story so much! And then Jack Sparrow makes an appearance as Jet and I'm pleased to no end. Oh and my guess is "Kai" is Lu Ten.

I loved the atmosphere you created in the water. :)

I think I might know who that is...

Other than that this is a great chapter. Like the way Sokka and Jet are bonding.
And no character death please... I know it's always unrealistic to have everyone survive, but if I wanted realistic I would watch the millions of deaths in the news. (I do, but I don't enjoy all the deaths.)

Wow. I would like to start out with: This is pretty incredible as a story. I am new to ATLA - a friend of mine introduced me to the series about 6 months ago, and therefore I am also pretty new to the fan side of things. Zutara instantly captured my attention and I have been greedily seeking out everything that looks even moderately interesting.

I hesitated with this fic in my first go-round because of the severity of the AU factor. I have rarely been so glad to have returned to a piece and given it a chance. This was a WONDERFUL exploration of every single character along a different and not-at-all unbelievable plotline. The age of the characters suited the piece well - it is so easy to picture your characters 5 years older than the show, and the realizations they have are appropriate to late-teens, early twenties.

The idea of pirates was excellent. One of the questions you asked was in regards to our favorite scenes. I have to confess, I love the visual of the meeting between Jet, Zuko and Suki at the Serpent's Hideaway. Those three characters each have a ruthless streak - with Jet's as the best developed and Suki's the least in canon. I think it was fantastic to see how they complement one another in that scene, and the way the scene is a great culmination of the background it took to get them there. In answer to another question, I would love to see that scene illustrated - if it hasn't been already.

Of all the characters you re-created or introduced, I have agree that Jet took a special place for me, too. The addition of real-world languages is often peculiar to me in ATLA fics, but his use of French was absolutely spot-on. If Jet were a pirate in the traditional, Caribbean sense, this would be the guy. I also loved that you re-introduced Lu Ten. Full marks for that - I've never read a Zutara with him in it before.

As for improvements...I think the climax was a bit rushed. I loved your diverse elements, but when it got to the end of the day, I wished for a little more action, or a little more difficulty. A "gasp" moment, or an instant when we're worried that Aang, or Katara, or Toph isn't going to make it. I also have to admit that I kind of expected Ursa to show up - since everyone else did! That's not so much a wish as simply a comment. When they were taken to Piandao for the first time, I really thought it might be Ursa they were introduced to.

Would I read a sequel or short-story spin-offs? Absolutely. In fact, that is going to be the very next thing I look up in the continuing adventures of this crowd...

Beautifully executed story - especially since Zuko did not end up taking his father's place. I really enjoyed reading this and I hope you're still writing for this universe because I love your take on it.
