Nerdalier chapter 1 . 4/7/2019
I loved this. Thank you so much for writing it. I got the warm fuzzies
eponnia chapter 1 . 8/15/2016
This is absolutely beautiful.
Laura Andrews chapter 1 . 5/30/2015
I read this a long time ago and never forgot it. It's just as good as I remembered. So, so beautiful and sweet; it makes me want to cry. This is one of the best 'gap fillers' I've ever read for Narnia :D
lookacactus chapter 1 . 9/25/2014
I loved this so much. I can honestly say that I have never found a oneshot that could be so beautiful until now. I cried. I have read some of your other works but so far none really caught my attention like this one did. Thank you so much for posting this.
Clara Brighet chapter 1 . 6/2/2014
That was beautiful. Really, truly beautiful.
One thing that quite impressed me about this story is its originality. I've never read anything written about the donkey Shasta lived with in Calormene. This was an absolutely brilliant idea! And there is such depth to it. You hear little (if any) of him in the book, but without Esek we may never have known the story of The Horse and His Boy. It is so moving, so inspiring! Even a seemingly meaningless life can have incredible purpose. Oh, Aslan!
I must say, this was very well written. With your words you moved me almost to tears, filled me with joy, melancholy, longing, and peace. That is a gift!
Thank you for writing!

SnowflakesandMozart chapter 1 . 5/4/2014
I do not usually read Narnia ff because Lewis' books are so wonderful and most authors spoil his world for me. But I discovered your stories this afternoon and I love how you captured the feeling of the childlike wonder of Narnia and Lewis' Christian but not preachy tone. I particularly enjoyed this story in which you fleshed out a very minor character. In your hands, Esek became a living, breathing character. I particularly appreciated his faithfulness through the years, as he followed a difficult calling, and was faithful until death. I gather from your stories (especially the ones about Christmas and Easter) that you are probably a Christian. I hope you will keep writing your own fiction, now that you have left FF, as our culture desperately needs high-quality art by Christians that is aimed at the culture at large and is not necessarily marketed as "Christian". You have a lot of potential, and I hope you will continue to develop it.

You made me cry. What a sweet, precious story. I love it. I always did sort of wonder about the donkey, because remember in the book Shasta talks to it... Thank you for again adding so much depth and beauty to my understanding of Narnia.
rosebudmelissa chapter 1 . 8/24/2012
Painful, in a beautiful sort of way.
Crazy Dyslexic Nerd chapter 1 . 6/23/2011

You make me cry every time I read it! I loved Esek, he was so sweet to Shasta with the hair nibbling! Thank you.
Berserker Nightwitch chapter 1 . 1/9/2011
Awww! Chills again!

Thank you for sharing this! I'd love to see the reunion between Esek and Cor/Shasta after LB!
beth-is-rainpaint chapter 1 . 9/28/2010
Well, that was wonderfully warm and fuzzy.

I really enjoyed the snapshot encounter with the man who'd saved Shasta's life. The picture of Esek's selfless love for Shasta was beautiful. And I'm so glad that Esek got to see Shasta one last time (in this life, anyway). I really wasn't expecting that, and I'd love to see the backstory behind that moment - Cor's determination to go see his old friend, Aravis's griping but eventual agreeing.

A lovely story - one I wish I'd read sooner!
Shizuku Tsukishima749 chapter 1 . 12/2/2009
AW! Yes, poor Esek (beautiful name, by the way-perfect)! He was happy in the end, though! _

Gosh, that was so sad! I loved how he found Shasta, though, and took care of him! U T.T So gorgeous! Man, what a selfless Donkey-I LOVED IT! The ways he tried to make Shasta laugh and got hurt to help him, etc., were BEAUTIFUL! U

I can't believe he died, right when Shasta and the others came to get him! That's so heartbreaking! On the bright side, I ADORED the 'knocked Arsheesh down' part: go, Cor! XD

The Aslan scene... Man, that brought on the tears! You always characterize the Lion so well (along with everyone else), it's amazing! Goodness, it's BEAUTIFUL! *U*

Rock on! The ending (last line and rest-whole thing-of course) was SPECTACULAR AS ALWAYS! U *U*

Ever-so sincerely signed,

Shizuku Tsukishima749 :D ;D :) ;)
Gryphaena chapter 1 . 9/17/2009
I realize that I have already left an unsigned review but I wanted to come back so I could favorite this.

The first time I saw this it just ate me. The pacing, the word choice, it was all so powerful in its beauty.

When Esek met Aslan, I felt like I couldn't breathe from my happiness.

I hope there is more Narnia fanfiction from you.
Kelev chapter 1 . 8/20/2009
Aw... so bittersweet! It's an interesting theory on the donkey, you did Lewis' storyline of The Horse And His Boy justice by making Esek a talking beast who never spoke. Excellent work.
