| Simianpower chapter 1 . 7/15 Yeah, I just can't. This Harry has no agency whatsoever. He's a puppet of the Endless. He's their entertainment, not mine. Nothing he does matters, because he has an entire pantheon of elder gods moving him around like a chess piece. Not only is this story on canon rails, but the cart is rickety and falling apart. Maybe this is how Sandman feels, but if so then I have no interest in reading it. Or this story. It started out quite promising, but never even started living up to that promise. Up to chapter 25, I give this a 5/10 for story, minus 3 for absolutely awful spelling and grammar every damned paragraph, for an overall 2/10. Not recommended, won't finish. Disappointing, since I like stories that take a turn for the weird, and this had a chance to make the magic feel magical again. Instead it just felt like author fiat forcing everything to fit pre-existing events, with no real character development. |

| Simianpower chapter 21 . 7/15 This is all just so convenient, so pat. The same stuff happens as in canon except it all has very little to do with Harry. I'm losing interest in the story because Harry is just a passive camera to all the canon events happening without his involvement. This is more "The Endless keep saving Patsy Potter" than a "Harry Potter and..." story. He's incompetent, forgetful, indifferent, basically sleep-walking through school while all the canon events happen in his vicinity. That's boring. I had high hopes for this story because it started out great, but it never left first gear. I like fourth year the most, since Harry really does a lot of stuff, so I guess I'll see if the next couple of chapters improve it. If not, I'll stop reading, since "Voldemort gets destroyed by infinitely powerful beings who inexplicably are attracted to Harry's vicinity" is a pointless story. |

| Simianpower chapter 17 . 7/15 Well, that's going to be annoying. Memory loss is never very interesting as a plot device. It doesn't build tension. It doesn't make readers forget anything. It doesn't add anything to a story. It's just annoying. I hope that's not a major element of the story for long. |
| Simianpower chapter 13 . 7/15 Seriously: HermIOne, not HermOIne! You frequently spell it wrong and then right WITHIN THE SAME SENTENCE! I know that this story is old, and will never be fixed, but the typos and grammar/structure errors are freakin' ridiculous! They make reading this story a chore. It's a good story, very different from the norm, but it loses quite a bit due to all the easily-fixed mistakes. |
