The idea of Natsu and Lucy being soulmates but as best friends who were always fated to find each other, is probably one of the most wholesome headcanons I've seen in this fandom. Adorable! And, hell yeah, who said soulmates need to be romantic?

I agree with Gray finding the institution of a fated romantic partner troubling as it removes the concept of consent (given how homeboi loses enough of that around Juvia, it particularly makes sense for him to be wary). I also adore how whimsically intelligent Lucy is in this (very Luna Lovegood, eh?) and the fact that Gray finds this endearing is just the icing on the cake.

This was a clever subversion of a wildly overdone trope - kudos, my dude!
