If there's one thing that I cannot believe, it has to be that I didn't review this story the first time I read it. This short and tragically beautiful story has me glassy eyed and wishing it had been longer. Maybe it's because the story is so short that it had such an impact. This felt like a glimpse into Kallen's mind, and it was done in a way that works so well.

The greatest killers of all are both loneliness and kindness...Lelouch certainly was altruistic to the very end. I applaud your effort on this one-shot, as well as delving into the concept of atonement.

So in the epilogue how did they heal from that prison of sorrow

Upon hearing Lelouch has Geass, they end up feeling betrayed. They are unable to confront their fear and then turn against him. They rage that everything Lelouch stood for and everything that he did, like the Death of Euphemia, was wrong and utterly intentional. Then Lelouch gets slain by his best friend, and the truth's realised too late. Too goddamned late. A new world is created, Japan's freed, The Britanian Empire dead, but the cost for a free Japan is a dead Lelouch and a desensitised Nannally. Kallen and everyone else involved, including those who honestly believed Lelouch was pure evil until it was all revealed far too late, will have to live the rest of their lives with the knowledge that they've got blood on their hands, now and forever.

My question is: Who did God really punish?
