Reviews for Metroid IV: Alone In The Stars
Old Mooshie chapter 12 . 9/9/2018
I picked this up and read it again after several years. It's still as good as I remember. The world building is expansive without bogging anything down and it never falls into telling instead of showing. The characterization is tight and consistent, and I didn't find any character to be annoying. There were a few dialogue moments that stuck out as maybe being a little forced, but that's just me nitpicking. The dialogue tends to be the strongest part of this story, actually. Each character has a recognizable voice that suits them.

I appreciate how you glossed over the repetitive action of Metroid a little. While that works fine for a game, it doesn't translate well to a written story. But you made it work, and I didn't find myself getting dragged down by it.

Overall, on a second reading, I think this story holds up very well. This is one I'll be revisiting every so often, like a favorite book that's rumpled from too many readings.
Duncan0Idaho chapter 12 . 6/7/2017
To be honest... I don't think this is a particularly outstanding piece of fanfiction. I come from Spacebattles and Sufficientvelocity and place where this would be received with some warmth and some scorn.

I have lots of little issues with this, considered that it was published in 09, I believe the "Metroid" Manga was already translated, so seeing Samus and Ridley get along and not only that, but she resurrecting him is rather, jarring. For good reasons (considering he was the one that killed her family and traumatized Samus as a child).

On a similar note, seeing Samus spare a space pirate is also downright jarring and nearly broke my Suspension of Disbelief. But I guess you couldn't or weren't aware of the manga/comics that provide details about Samus's BG.

You do pull a nice novelization, it was interesting to reach the conclusion that BLS was meant to make Samus's 2.0, akin to Kojima's MGS2: Sons of Liberty SSS project (Solid Snake Simulation) by placing soldiers in similar situations to Samus's own.

Any characterization of Adam is superior by default to Other M's so thats a nice plus.

Overall, I'd call it an average fic. Still, thanks for writing it.
The Stin chapter 12 . 5/7/2016
Overall, excellent job. A Metroid novelization is hard to hammer down, what with the whole game consisting primarily of blasting through hallways. Use of Adam and many OC's to spice up the intrigue was greatly appreciated, and this version of Ridley amused me to say the least. I could go on about inconistencies with the cannon, but you probably know those already, and I honestly can't bring myself to care enough about said inconsitencies. Your story meshes well with the universe it's set in, and that's all that matters.
Your representation of Samus threw me for a bit of a whirl, if only because I've always interpreted her as much more stoic, but your interpretation grew on me after a few chapters.
All in all, good job taking a minimal amount of plot in a linear platformer, and turning it into a legitimately compelling read.
ShadowLDrago chapter 12 . 12/13/2015
Y'know, not gonna lie, I'd LOVE to see a sequel to this, and seeing Mark Todar die was VERY satsifying. Though seeing Samus work with Space Pirates is still weird.
ShadowLDrago chapter 11 . 12/13/2015
I admit, I kinda like how the SA-X enjoys the thrill of a good fight almost as much as Samus and Ridley do, if I didn't know better, I'd say they were part Saiyan. I wonder though, does Samus in this universe realize that the Space Pirate that murdered her parents was Ridley, the same guy she revived and seems to have a sort of Goku and Vegeta rivalry with.
ShadowLDrago chapter 10 . 12/13/2015
I admit, I REALLY like how you handled the Ridley-X fight as well as the whole Ridley in Samus's head thing, it works really well.
Guest chapter 9 . 12/13/2015
Nightmare destroyed, Level 4 unlocked, and, a reference to Kingdom Hearts, with I believe, Xigbar, Axel, Demyx, Saix and Larxene, in a musical for some reason. Probably leading the Nobodies.
ShadowLDrago chapter 8 . 12/12/2015
Ridley's in Samus's head and both Yakuza and the Nettori are dead. Also, the Plasma Beam also DOES add a unique property to her weapon, it allows her shots to pierce enemies for greater damage. Unless that was what you meant.
ShadowLDrago chapter 7 . 12/12/2015
The small Dachora was named Samus as a sign of respect to the real Samus, interesting. Also, we get our first encounter with the SA-X, avoidable if you know what to do, but still not easy for most. Also, we're about to deal with Yakuza to get the Space Jump and Nettori to obtain the Plasma Beam.
ShadowLDrago chapter 6 . 12/12/2015
Mega Core-X obliterated, and Samus is now definitly terrified of the SA-X- Kinda wish we'd seen a few more cutscenes of that thing to help amp up how f*cking scary that thing is. That last paragraph, it hits you HARD.
ShadowLDrago chapter 5 . 12/11/2015
Interesting how much Samus fears the SA-X, though I do like the unique way it's taking down all the bosses so far, Arachnus, Zazabi, Serris and B.O.X so far, let's see where this goes.
ShadowLDrago chapter 4 . 12/11/2015
The SA-X is revealed.
ShadowLDrago chapter 3 . 12/11/2015
Yes, I can imagine how pissed Samus must have been when she realized who they named the AI after.
ShadowLDrago chapter 2 . 12/11/2015
I think I like Horzat. Also, yeesh, palm fangs, wondered why the vaccine had no side effects.
ShadowLDrago chapter 1 . 12/10/2015
And here, we, go.
