I love that about not needing to pretend. I was talking with friends about that this week, those few people who know you completely and with whom you can drop the pretense, even when the pretense isn't a lie, it's still a wall. I can't even imagine how much Dean is that person for Sam, and vice versa. Beautiful.

This was a truly beautiful drabble, and it made me tear up a little. I especially loved this: "...further in where you can't control there's something else, warm and sure and overwhelming everything, until you remember it's possible to be with another person and not pretend, at all. You go with him to the car. When your fingers graze the door handle, you know you're home."

Love the idea that Dean is the one person Sam doesn't have to pretend with at all, and the reminder that when at Stanford he pretended with everyone. Love the sense of arriving home, and the warmth and surety that spreads through him even when he wants to be mad. Loved too the use of smell-great choices and details there.
