This may have been meant as a prologue, but it's also good as it stands. I like the way you created a sense of what it must've been like for Kaoru when she was a child. There's a strong sense of familial affection running through this chapter. Very well done!

Aw, that was sweet at first, then sad. I love how Kaoru's dad calls her "princess." It did actually feel very much like a one-shot, so I'd be interested to see how you expand this.

I've often wish Watsuki would have given more background on Kaoru. She obviously grew up without a mother, so I wish he would have mentioned that.
