It was more meaningful to tell the story in reverse like you did, making us wait to hear why Aragorn needed punishment, and the reason why Elrond was triggered to overreact. Erestor is the hero in this story, simply saying "He isn't Isildor" and saving the relationship.

Elrond needs to be more apologetic to little Estel...explain why he was disciplining him, too. Young children are not usually so clear on the reason for punishment...and this was excessive for the poor boy.
