You know, I really loved your story and I would love to be able to read your ""start over" from the mid-1520s". It is a really interesting AU that you created and decided to stick to, you did an amazing job to capture the characters essence and personnalities in a most magistral way. I would love to have news of this story, if inspiration manages to go your way.

Guest chapter 17 . 8/5/2018
It think Harry is an utter fool. Given the time he lived in and his upbringing he would never have given up his position for love that to men was always of second importance and that he could have without marriage.

Nor would Katherine of Aragon never urged her children to put personal happiness first. If you were born the heir of the throne, God had ordered that and you must simply do your duty.

While it's true that John of Gaunt married his mistress, he only did so as an old man. He would never have abandoned a marriage with Constance of Castile which gave him chance to become the king of Castile. When his bastards were finally legitimized, there was never any intention that they would displace his legitimate sons by his first wife, Blanche of Lancaster, still less that the Beaufort line would inherit the crown which was mostly due that there were no more any other to oppose Richard III.

As for Anne, she was an ambitious woman who would never have thought that her son wouldn't be fit to be a king. Just the opposite: she would probably done everything in her power to make him a king instead of Katherine's son.

Hey! Just reread this story, probs read it for the first time years ago. Just wanted to say I enjoyed it, but would like you to backtrack! I’m going to say though, a mistress who was that hated (because in my mind your Jane was not liked.. by anyone) would not be too successful... Then again, I have always disliked Jane so I always like seeing her fail. Maybe try to incorporate Anne of Cleves!
Looking forward to an update!

Glad to see that this story might be continued. I think that whichever way works for you is best, whether that's continuing from where you left off, or revising past chapters.

As to the issue of Jack's legitimation, I think that it is, and always has been, a political problem rather than a legal one.

If Harry had never married Charlotte, and married Jane after she gave birth to Jack, Jack could have been legitimised. He might not have been able to be called Prince, and would probably need to be placed after his parents' legitimately born issue in the line of succession, if he was included at all, but in all other respects, he would be legitimate. As long as Harry could secure his father's support - which, granted, is far from a guarantee with a more conservative Henry, who has every reason not to want to muddy the succession, if it can possibly be avoided - it would be fairly smooth sailing, and a second son by Jane would be accepted as heir.

The problem is that Harry did marry Charlotte, and she not only died very young, she died as a result of pregnancy when they were warned that she should never carry another child. At best, it would be taken as an insult to her memory that Harry should marry his mistress and legitimise their bastard when Charlotte is not yet cold in her grave. At worst, it could be assumed that Charlotte's life was deliberately endangered in order to free Harry to marry the mother of his son. Either way, it is likely to mean a serious deterioration of Anglo-French relations. It would put Henry in a terrible position, especially as Mary has married into the French royal family. If he doesn't openly oppose Harry's plans, it will be assumed that he supports him.

The other question would be whether the Tudors are secure enough in their possession of the throne to risk vesting the succession in a boy born out of wedlock, or if that would be an open invitation for civil war, one where the French could end up backing Jack's rivals.

I think you're a good writer and will read anything you choose to do. Also the best choice is the one that makes you happy with your work or feels like the best direction.
