I love the implication that Sokka is named after his grandpa, and how Aang changed destiny by protecting the SWT and Hama. If we're really lucky, as Iroh was the only kid mentioned, maybe Ozai hasn't been born yet! (In my mind, that doesn't mean Zuko and Azula would cease to exist, just that they'd be the kids of Ursa and her Hira'a boyfriend, or maybe Iroh's younger children after Lu Ten, instead.) Loved this AU!

I'm appalled to realize I didn't review this when I first read it years ago... but better late than never! This has always been one of my favorite Avatar AU fics, which is why I've come 'round to read it again over five years later-and putting it on my Favorites list, so I can find it again more easily next time! I'd still dearly love to see this story continued, but the ending you chose is still satisfying.

I really have to say, after reading this and rereading countless times after I stumbled across this masterpiece in June 2013, this is one of the greatest AU Fanfics of not only Avatar, but also any other medium I've ever had the privilege to read. It was indeed a real privilege. In fact, I have created this account just so I could review it for a second time. (My first review was on Jun 26, 2013 by sleath56, a page before the one this review is one.)

The characters of Hama, Kanna and Aang were completely IC, as others have said, they were very well done, very rounded and fleshed out characters and I loved reading their story even though it may have not been as long as I would have liked. (I love this FF so much that I have read all the reviews for it on both and ArchiveofOurOwn) I love the lore-building, with such things as a Southern Special, Facebending and the creative use of Blasting Jelly. I love the world-building as well, seeing the subtle differences in culture in this younger era and the massive potential this story has makes me depressed that its just a one-shot.

This is how one goes about to writing a Fanfic. This for me is a quintessential fanfic that will always hold a place on my favourites list.

Acastus Actually, as a diehard Avatar fan of over half a decade and a former editor on the Avatar Wiki, I can attest that this fanfic is completely accurate. The Firelord 35 years after Sozin's Comet is Azulon. Sozin died 15 years before the events here took place.

I'd love to see a continuation at some point in the future.

I really wish this wasn't a one-shot. Oh well.

Aang is very much in character and the AU concept here is interesting. Hama and Kanna are wonderfully utilized / expanded.

The Fire Lord at this time is still Sozin, however, though that's just a minor quibble.
