I read this story years ago (back when you first posted it) and even though a lot of the fic I read back then didn't stand the test of time and more mature eyes, this one most certainly did. It's one of the most utterly gorgeous fics that I've read, so still and small - and yet epic at the same time. Every sentence has such beauty and meaning in it, and reading it is a true experience: it drags the reader into the scene, painting it so vividly that even though we only catch a glimpse of a room, it's easy to imagine that there's a whole world beyond its walls. The same goes for the characters, in how deftly you've written Itachi and Naruto to be self-contained in the moment and yet completely defined by their past experiences.

This story is so soft and quiet in its brilliance, I can't help but love it. Thank you so much for reposting it! It was an absolute joy to reread it.

So this is weird: I read this and was all WHOA and then I gave my brain a second to catch up and went through looking for the action, what the story would look like with no sound or narration. It was...weird. And awesome. And I feel strongly that this is better than Swedish Fish, and like NOTHING is better than Swedish Fish. It is silly but true. And Naruto the Sunflower seems anti-Naruto, but it's a more accessible/vulnerable Naruto and it works with Iruka, I guess. Right. I mean, it seems an orphan that most of a town hates would have considered suicide, especially one that laughs at death(?). Yeah, never mind. Really, really good!
