n.uggett chapter 1 . 3/14
Such a good piece of work... the writing is so rich and captures emotions perfectly. I loved the yellow wallpaper reference!

It is so it so dear

No matter in the best or the worst sitiation,
they always on each others' side.
There must be a poet of love, such as the relationship of USA and UK.
Though the article highlight how gentle and cocky England is, I do think he fall in love with Alfred a lot, bloody, deep in his heart.
Love is always done between them,no matter England never says "I love you"

They must be a pair, John and Jill.A and A.
p.s. Please be patient when a Chinese try to write with a foreign language, sorry for my pool

Diurnal Days chapter 1 . 2/2/2016
I think the ring symbolises that England and America's "marriage"/Special Relationship has done England harm in the past, but he still wears his love (or maybe need) for America on his finger anyway. He still sticks to his ally's side even when doing so would have negative consequences for him. His marriage to America isn't all flowers and sunshine, but he still acknowledges it and cares for America just a little bit. The gun? Nuclear war and what it entailed for the post-WWII world, although the history of the development of the nuclear bomb is full of "what-ifs". Although the Cold War partially began due to the development of nuclear weapons, if the U.S. hadn't developed those weapons and sabotaged the German development of nuclear weapons, many lives would've been lost due to the invasion of the Japanese homeland and the possible bombing of London by the Nazis. There really is no answer to whether or not the development of nuclear weapons was moral or justifiable, but the U.S. did kind of get itself into a lot of trouble when it used two bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And America not being able to pull the gun out of himself without consequently pulling the trigger in the process also seems to have meaning. The U.S. couldn't exactly completely disarm themselves without risking an attack from its enemies. His abusiveness towards England out of paranoia may have to do with the Red Scare of the 1950s, where anyone suspected of being a Communist was blacklisted and put on trial, etc. Maybe my interpretation isn't entirely what you were going for, but I guess that's the fun part about symbolism that relies less heavily on tried-and-true tropes. There are many interpretations that are all equally correct.
England really could've been more gentle with America during the Cold War, though. I can understand why he'd act so short-tempered with America, since his spouse was acting paranoid, possessive, and downright abusive towards him, but he really wasn't helping matters by yelling at America and baiting him. I guess that, in the end, they both moved out of the tight spot in their relationship, but the situation might've been eased a bit had either of them acted better. Bygones must be bygones, though.
Personally, I think that England did care for America a bit throughout the fic, but he had sort-of accepted their marriage more out of convenience and dependence than love. He doesn't seem as enthusiastic about their union compared to some of your other fics where he's married (or at least closely tied) to America. And America... he's a little harder to pin down, but I think he cared more for England than England cared for him, even if he did abuse England throughout the 1950s. I think he was aware that England didn't really love him all that much, but he still wanted England to stick by his side because they still trusted each other to a degree. No matter what, though, their relationship was really twisted and kind of dysfunctional. Then again, if their relationship isn't a bit of a messy wreck, it's not USUK. XD
Overall, this was an interesting take on the Special Relationship and the history behind it. It's definitely (I keep on misspelling that word, dangit) not as polished as your more recent takes on the US-UK relationship, but I still enjoyed reading it.
(America's antics creeped me out, though. Ripping the wallpaper off the wall because he "saw things" in it and carving "CAPITALIST" into England's chest so that he wouldn't forget "who he was"? That's unsettling, to the say the very least. O_o)
EchizenRyomaLover chapter 1 . 3/22/2015
God I swear you are a writer with depth (and a fan fiction writer at that!). XD At first I was totally drowning in oozing feels when America proposed using that "green" peg, but then...whoa, look at the way things turned out. Wonderful writing as always (especially since you really take historical events into account)! UGH BUT RIGHT NOW I NEED A MEGA DOSE OF DISGUSTING FLUFF BECAUSE THIS AWESOME FIC WILL HAUNT ME FOR A WHILE UGH THIS IS SO WONDERFULLY PAINFUL (just like England and America's marriage here OTL /shot /cries).
Londonut chapter 1 . 10/28/2014
I never said this, but it's the best. USUK. Fic. Ever. *CRY
But still a bit confused over the loaded gun scene...? Haha
KKtheRipper chapter 1 . 5/24/2014
Completely beautiful...all of this. Something I have never read before and I have to say that this was an enjoyable read. All the historical references are correct and I got to see the true blooming of love between the two. It is so realistically portrayed and I honestly loved the way you wrote this. It was dark at times, but I loved it and it kept the story interesting and alive. Great job and I hope to read more of your fics. :)
MayBell Lyric chapter 1 . 4/29/2014
"Before you start thinking poor wittle Engwand was victimised all the way through by that big meanie America.."
Yeah, that wasn't what I was thinking at all. I was thinking, "ya know England, maybe you should act more supportive towards America. The poor guy is losing his mind and you're not even TRYING to help him. Instead, you make it worse by yelling at him and making all these sarcastic comments about leaving him and whatnot."
So I don't really know who to feel sorry for. America is hurting emotionally, and England is hurting physically, but I guess I feel sorry neither of them because frankly their both nuts and their relationship unbelievably dysfunctional.
Well, anyways, good story. I do enjoy a dark fic every once in a while.
Seriyuu chapter 1 . 9/8/2013
so, so beautiful. I love this version of the special relationship in all its darkness and paranoid hysterics - it really shows the other side of history that the original strips don't always touch upon. so wonderful!
Viviane Renard chapter 1 . 6/29/2013
Another fun Hetalia story from you. You certainly know your history, which makes the story that much better. I really enjoy how you skillfully tie historical events to the characters' changing personalities.
JustSpirky chapter 1 . 5/14/2013
THIS WAS AWESOME!

And you live in Cardiff? One of my best friends lives their! You don't by any chance know a Kassia, do you?

ANYWAYS! This story is so beautifully written!
Anonymous chapter 1 . 4/18/2013
Okay, this sounds kind of like nit-picking, but I noticed you use the word 'tertiary' to describe green... And actually, green is a secondary colour, not a tertiary one (tertiary referring to the third tier of colours, e.g. teal, red-orange, indigo, ect...).
I don't know if you're the kind of writer who goes back and changes their old stories (apparently some people do), but for future reference I suppose, it might be nice to know the difference between tertiary and secondary.
Anyway, great story. It was well-written and definitely interesting to read. I'm impressed.
Cheers.
