Reviews for What the Thunder Said
elanor of aquitania chapter 3 . 10/27/2011
I love introspective stories.

This story is rendered in beautiful words. Very haunting for me. Beautiful.

The poem has not the kind of wording beauty I prefer [thus I do not imagine it to be Faramir's song, only - as you told - a Gondorian song ;-)], yet the song itself is well invented to enhance the story construction.

Moreover, the rest is so well written that I can imagine the poet-warrior Faramir telling it himself.
Syntyche chapter 3 . 2/10/2010
Well ... I've spent a bit of the evening going backward through ff.n's LOTR archive, some 1500 pages, and I'm glad to have found so many of your stories right in a row.

This part:

It was not until many weeks later, sitting in peace with friends and able at last to talk of that day, that I learned that that first voice had been mine. I have no memory of that at all.

Was especially lovely to read. Thank you for writing such heartfelt, well-written Faramir-centric stories. They are much appreciated on a quiet evening like tonight.
Emily chapter 3 . 1/27/2010
Oh, the verse is fine. : )

I like how the first voice was Faramir's own, but he didn't realise it. And the description of the fallen heroes... striking.
LadyoftheShield chapter 3 . 11/29/2009
This strongly reminds me of Tolkien's way of writing. Almost as it you were inside his head!
duj chapter 3 . 6/2/2009
The verses work well. That is exactly what they would have sung.
asdfjkl chapter 3 . 11/17/2008
go faramir!
EmmyH chapter 3 . 11/23/2006
Okay, yes, so this fic is 4 years old, but...having received reviews for old stories of /mine,/ I know it's kinda nice sometimes. And you still seem to be around, so at least I know you'll probably read it. :)

I like the song! It's...uh, the rhyme is simple enough that it doesn't sound trite-too many people use ABAB or AABB and it sounds stupid. So, yeah, yours is nice.

And the fic..ah! Yours are some of the first LOTR fanfics I've looked at-I've been wandering around other fandoms for years now, but only just stumbled on this one. And yours seem to be the best I've found so far. Yay! Thanks for writing.

Rhyselle chapter 3 . 11/23/2006
It is more than four years since you wrote this story and I only just discovered it tonight... I hope that since then you have come to a better opinion of your ability to write verse. "Gondor Will Abide" is beautiful.

My twin sister writes music and I am seriously tempted to ask her to craft a melody for your song.

I love how well you communicate Faramir in the first person in the fics that I've read so far. He's not a wimp, and not a shadow of Boromir, but a fascinating, strong person in his own right and in his own way.

I'm so very glad I stumbled upon your fics in my search through FFN's archives today.
Dimfuin chapter 3 . 6/3/2004
That was awesome! And I loved your song too. It wasn't half bad;-)
Playing Passerine chapter 2 . 3/29/2004
i seem to be growing more and more addicted to your writing. lucky that i come to it late, and so am i spared the axiety of waiting for more :)
and kudos for turning from TSE in the third chapter, i don't think you could have found a poet more perfect than owen for that last chapter.
Grav chapter 3 . 2/10/2004
I guess I read these a little out of order. Ah well. I pick things up quickly. Still, I might have to read the Fire Sermon agin to pick my spirits up.
I am in awe of those who can write songs, and yours is (you guessed it) fabulous. Anyone who can make "Westernesse" rhyme without sounding ridiculous gets points in my book. I am also in awe of the bit where Faramir grieves for the Haradhrim, which was in the EE, but you've got it perfectly here.
Fabulous story, all around.
Grav chapter 2 . 2/10/2004
You know, Imrahil has about three lines in this chapter, and I buy his "ride safe son" entirely. It's nice to know that Faramir's got someone.
Also, I loved your Gandalf. And, since I don't think I've mentioned it yet, you write in "Tolkienese" very well. You don't stray into colloquial english (that I've noticed), and your turn of phrase is very true to the book. Well done.
Grav chapter 1 . 2/10/2004
Man, Faramir has some serious issues. That last paragraph in particular made my head spin. I think he needs a hug. I will volunteer.
greenleaf-in-bloom chapter 3 . 2/9/2004
As I have just said to a nearby friend, your stories are shivery cool.
wellduh chapter 3 . 1/19/2004
I very much doubt you'll even bother to read this review so long after completing the story, but still. Very neat. Cannot get out of my mind the scene when Faramir is returned to the White City now.
