An Auditor! So clever of you to mention of them when it comes to universal rules. And I love the Moist part for examining the old throne. Perfect characterization.

I only just read this whole fic, and I must say, it's absolutely wonderful! I couldn't stop reading once I'
d begun. Great work. (And my eyes were quite moist by the end of it, too.)

I... don't even know what to say. This was so sad, and thought-provoking, and beautiful. I made a choked little noise at some point after you revealed the bodies, I admit. Oh, Vetinari. I'm not a fan of the 'he's really just a sweetheart behind that cold exterior and will be very nice to Drumknott/Vimes/romantic interest C' idea, but you made Vetinari believable and human and still himself. And oh, Drumknott. Death's paperwork made me laugh, it was sheer genius. XD And oh, the headlines. It pains me that it was a lie, still, but I can see William's reasoning. And Vimes' reaction, and Sybil's and Carrot's... and oh, Moist. The scene with the throne made me laugh. XD

And that final scene with Vetinari and Drumknott, when they move on together? Beautiful. Jut beautiful, and perfect, and heartbreaking.

Honestly, I have no words that could possibly encapsulate the sheer brilliance that is this story. I could write volumes about it- the truth of the characters, the depth of the storyline, just the complete and utter wonder of it all coming together to mean something so incredibly profound that it leaves me gibbering like this- but I don't think I could possibly say it better than you have in the past 17,000 words. Just... thank you. Seriously. From the bottom of my heart. :)

I must say this is probably the closest I've ever come fanfic-wise to feeling like I'm actually reading a Discworld book. Thank you for the amazing story.

Same as Commanderjc - I normally hate the Vetinari/Drumknott stuff, but this is just so well-written...and despite the sheer scale of my love for Vetinari, I actually thought the way you captured the other characters was fantastic, especially Moist von Lipwig and William de Worde. I can't help but think that if Moist ever does become Patrician, that's exactly how he would be.

I don't even like Vetinari/Drumknott fics, but I'm going to have to say this is one of my favorite Discworld fanfics of all time. Excellent work.

This story is just amazing! I'm really glad Drumknott decided to go with Vetinari. Leaving where they were going unspecified was a really nice touch. The tenth footnote made me crack up laughing. I think Moist would do a good job as Patrician. You did a wonderful job with this story.

The funeral was so sad! :( It was beautifully written, though. The line "He made the mistake of looking back, and saw Death astride his great charger, scythe gleaming wickedly in the eternal light, and discovered that, after all, he could run even faster" made me laugh. I'm glad Drumknott found Vetinari. I loved Vetinari's list of things that made it a good day :). So de Worde put the lie in the paper? As long as the people who matter know the truth, I guess... Well, I'm off to read the last chapter!

I forgot to mention it in my last review, but I found the eight footnote extremely funny. Moist as the Patrician surprised me at first, but I like the idea. His paranoia about the chair was funny :). I still don't understand Vetinari's gamble. Anyway, you did a really good job with this chapter. I'm excited to find out what happens next.
