Reviews for This Fire
WolFang1011 chapter 1 . 6/1/2019
I do believe that this is the first time I've read anything by you! After not reading fics for years, it's a welcome change, more so now that our roles are reversed!

I really loved this. Your prose is very... nostalgic. It's reminiscent of a time and style that isn't there anymore. It has that old soul quality which I absolutely adore, and I found it in spades here.

Fergus and Anora getting together has been a personal headcanon of mine for a while. I am so happy to see the road you took here, of a promised love, late in being realised and living through horror after horror, finally recognised. It was a wonderful end, and an amazing journey to get there.

Count me a fan.

I love this one, too!
shadoedseptmbr chapter 1 . 11/8/2012
Oh, well done. I always thought this would be a sensible approach. And you handled it with delicacy...everyine comes off looking well!
gingergen chapter 1 . 5/30/2012
It's so lovely to see a happy ending for Anora! She faces such difficult situations with strength, and has so little love in her life; it always makes me sad when people only see her as cold and calculating. You did an excellent job of showing her softer side without letting it make her weak.
JayRain chapter 1 . 8/6/2011
After all she went through, Anora certainly deserves the happy ending she gets in this. I think what stands out so well in this piece is that Anora is a victim, but not victimized, if that makes sense. She's human, but she's nobility and as such winds up being a pawn same as all of them; but she refuses to be moved as such, and will fight. You've portrayed her as a strong woman, but not in a way that alienates her from readers. And I like how the whole time, Fergus carried his own flame for her. Nicely done.
Enaid Aderyn chapter 1 . 8/3/2011
This is magnificent.

That is all.
Wolfox6 chapter 1 . 6/21/2011
"This fire was hers to keep."

Wow.

I'm almost speechless, because of the goosebumps I got from reading the last line.

I've read a lot of Anora fics, even wrote a PoV of hers as well, and I still could not find it in my heart to care one way or another about her.

Until this moment, that is.

Fergus was always in my heart, so I'm grateful to see his presence in *any* fic, but you've created an instant fave story for me with this.

Thank you.
lemonjay chapter 1 . 3/6/2011
A wonderfully written story of a love finally realized. I especially enjoyed the wordplay, filled with double entendres, between Fergus and Anora. Due to her portrayal in DA:O it is so easy to cast Anora as the cold, calculating Queen; intent on maintaining power at any cost. We don't see her as someone trapped by fate and circumstance in a role she never wanted.

Thank you for posting this unique and humanizing perspective of Anora.
NuitNuit chapter 1 . 2/25/2011
Oh wow... I've read Anora/Fergus getting married, but it was always an after the fact sort of thing with Anora getting Fergus as a consolation prize instead of the Queenship so to speak. But this? I rather like this idea very much and can totally see it having happened in the context of the story.

Great piece!
IdealisticSoul chapter 1 . 2/24/2011
Great story! I see another face of Anora now!

It's very plausible that Anora and Fergus had known each other very well, since they were both nobles. I would have preferred an Epilogue with Anora marring Fergus instead of ruling alone (like in DAO). It would have made me happier knowing that she's not so bitter or cold, that she had found someone to balance her, make her a better person. ;-)
Prisoner 24601 chapter 1 . 10/28/2010
This is really cute. I'm a sucker for a sympathetic Anora fic and hooking her up with Fergus is a fun choice to make.
mutive chapter 1 . 7/27/2010
Ah, how beautifully romantic. Dark, and yet sweet at the same time. I love that there was a happy ending after all of that. And the characterizations were dead on...
Saerwen Tabris chapter 1 . 7/26/2010
I really liked this, I think I forget that the "time" period this game is set in women really don't have choices about whom to marry. I don't really think Anora was all that bad, she just mad the best of a bad situation.. hero gone crasy dad, irresposible spoiled brat husband etc. I think that she could have been a better queen on her own with a little more perspective from the commoners, but wouldn't all nobles? Great insight into a complex woman. Go Fergus! He gets overlooked.
WellspringCD chapter 1 . 6/28/2010
You're making me want to set Anora and Fergus up in my story! She's definitely not going to be ruling alone while idolizing Loghain, that's for sure.

You did a good job addressing how a woman might feel after having to reset her heart over and over again. Each massive, wrenching change and how exhausting it must be, and the whole looking-for-the-good-side process to console herself.
Shakespira chapter 1 . 6/27/2010
A finely woven story, as always. I loved your Anora which is a high compliment because I never like Anora.
