Well DAMN, that hurt! Pain... beautiful, horrible, wonderful pain.

Wow. I'm emotionally overwhelmed. At this moment I feel as though I've just been to the funeral of a very dear friend.
Within the first few paragraphs I was impressed with your story telling, the imagery especially. With relatively few words you had the whole scene in my head. I could hear the sarcasm in Toph's remarks about Iroh's teeth and fat ass and I could already feel the love that it was trying to hide. All of that in just the first dozen or so sentences.
As I continued reading I was quickly drawn completely in to the story. Your writing flows so smoothly it just seemed to sweep me along for the ride. Subtle and deceptively powerful is your style. Kind of like floating down a large river, it seems gentle, but you are pretty much powerless to stop it from taking you where it will. I don't remember when, but pretty early on I knew I wasn't going to stop until I reached the end. The VERY few glitches like spell check snags and the occasional grammatical hiccup were easily left behind.
Ok, I just went and looked at some of the other reviews to make sure I wasn't making a fool of myself. I think I'm ok here. I did notice a few remarks about the relatively low number of reviews. I agree that there should be many more than there are but I think there is a an explanation. After reaching the end of this story I believe that a lot of readers just aren't in the right frame of mind to be critical. The same effect as a particularly profound movie. When it's over people just quietly shuffle out of the theater in a sort of spell. I am very impressed, heck, amazed, (I try to avoid using that word because it is so overused it is almost an understatement in this review) that you have achieved such an emotionally formidable experience in such a short work. Well done. I salute you. I grovel at your feet. Whatever else can be applied to express how thoroughly your story has impressed me.
Having read a few of the other reviews now, I will make an admission; As soon as Poppy woke Toph to tell her that Zuko was there I knew why he was there and I just flat out lost it. It was difficult for me to read the ending through the tears and sobbing. I've had difficulty typing this review as I have to keep removing my glasses to dry the tears off of them and my eyes.
You are a talented writer and gifted story teller. I hope that you continue with your writing. I will be looking for it.
My son that I used to watch the original ATLA series with is now a Marine. If he ever reads this review, I wonder what he's going to think of his father.

This is the most emotional fanfic I've ever read. It just feels so genuine and rings true on so many levels. When it became clear where the story was going I became so emotionally invested that when it ended I just dissolved into a pool of tears.
Toph's relationship with her father resonated with me especially. I'm in that kind of situation with a friend right now; he was insulted by something I did and I was too scared to talk to him about it for half a year, and when I finally did talk to him about it, he turned me away without a second thought.
Sorry for all the self pity, I just wanted to explain exactly how I felt about the story.
All in all, great story. I hope to see more.

The best thing about this story is that you have a very clear understanding of the characters, especially of Toph and Iroh. Everything they say and do is so in-character with Bryke's original, and the result is an incredibly touching and poignant story. Amazing job.
