Just some constructive crit. I feel that there's an excessive use of italics in both chapters. I think italics are only relevant for inner thoughts. For flashbacks, it's best to state somewhere that it's a flashback or the most common method is to use the asterisk separator ( doesn't allow multiple asterisks in a line so I use a line separator instead). Otherwise, it gets confusing. Also, some layout issues. I'd put a space between each separate line. If you want the lines to be in the same paragraph, then there should be no line breaks at all.
