OMG! I'm almost crying right now this is so sad! Poor Basil...this is an excellent backstory you made for him-it's a good theory explaining his antisocial interaction with other people and why he seems to be a slight asshole in the movie. It's tear-jerking and beautiful at the same time!

Amazing. Simply, amazing. One of the best stories (in fanfiction and in actually published books) I have read in a while. So heart-breaking! I nearly cried several times! I'm pleased that he didn't commit suicide, and decided to live on for his wife and daughter. Very well written and very in-character. Overall: Great job!

I really enjoyed this story. I could just imagine this being sort of a backstory for Basil and that could explain why he was the way he was in the movie.

All and all, it was a good read. Great job!

The only problem here is that cocaine was not classified as a drug in the UK during the 19th centuary. Being British myself I find it historically inacurate.

Holy freaking crap! This was...I don't even know what to say, it was that good. No, good is an understatement. It was outstanding! At this point, I have to agree with TheEccentricEgotist. It is a shame that this was only a fanfiction one-shot and not a true story. Everyone was in character the whole way through. I will also admit, you were one of the only other GMD writers that made me cry. You really have a way of capturing a readers emotions. This is a terrific back story for Basil since the movie never tells us anything about his past. I seriously hope that you keep on writing. A talent like yours should never be wasted.
