OK;you're 2 for 2. I thought that i was a Firefly/Serenity nut. You really have a flair for getting inside of the characters keep them in character while at the same time putting ,just a little of your own flavor to them. Not a lot of writers have that gift and you should be the fact that you make the stories believable really makes your fics a joy to read. Now,on to the next one.

Holy cow, this is good. I could feel the truth of it and it works as well or better than any pre-Serenity I've read and fits in nicely with the references to Zoe's past in the 'Better Day's graphic novels.

That was good! Seeing the look in Mal's eyes when they were abandoned is enough to make you wonder why he's still alive. Zoe here was good. Yeah, I can believe that she'd be the one to convince him to keep on going. Well written. Going into my personal canon.

You have a beautiful way of writing, you are particularly good at creating imagery that is both surreal and notable, creating contrasts etc. I liked the sentence "kin by choice and blood bought loyalty if not by birth". I believe in intense and powerful friendship, I think I believe more in that than in romance since I've never experienced the latter but know something about the former. So did Zoe know Mal would be here because it is the anniversary of the blast? I'm a true sap for the "if you can't walk you crawl" thing, it gets me everytime. I found the bright colors of the cash box to be a nicely done manifestation of contrast and symbolism. That's a really good conjecture on how Mal got the money for Serenity, I like it, and its more likely than the Alliance giving him anything to start fresh with.

OK this is fantastic. You so totally nailed the relationship between these two.. gah what an awesome glimpse into their past!

This was just wonderful. So much powerful, evocative prose and character study packed into a one-shot! A great view into how Zoe and Mal possibly came to end up on Serenity. You have a distinctive style that brings images alive. And you were particularlly effective at conveying the desolation of Shadow. I usually like to point out my favorite lines, but there were so many, so I have to limit myself the the very best:

- broiling in the blood of their dead.

-Clumpy particulate crunched under her boot heels as she took her first steps outside the shuttle.

- their names recorded nowhere now but in the memory of the heir who'd left for the stars with a pocketful of fragile ideals.

- He laid his left hand on the lid, as reverently as she'd ever seen him touch a Bible.

- working crabwise around the words she didn't want to say unless she had to.

I loved this. Zoe needing to get the aftermath of the war out of her system by becoming a dust devil for a while and Mal untethered and hurting. Any attempt to rebuild his life thwarted by the petty vindictiveness of the almighty Alliance. His mother's gift the solution and hope for them both. Could amost call it poetical. And Mal and Zoe together again, right where they belong. Very Shiny, thank you. Ali D :~)

Nice one shot... would have made for good backstory in the Series premiere
