Great story! I liked seeing this different side of Barney, and I can totally picture this happening off-screen. I think Barney was definitely hurt by the break up, and still in love with Robin. I also agree that his obsessive womanizing was a way to deal with his pain - a "cry for help," as Lily called it.

I love how Ted took care of Barney and was a good friend to him. I also like that you added some humor. That reminded me of the show - they have emotionally intense moments and also very funny moments. So anyways - lovely story! Thank you for writing it. :)

Aww... I just wanna give Barney a hug through all that! You're right though, I loved the episode 05x17, but always felt sooo sad for Barney, since no one even nothered to see if he was hurt at all... and in some ways, I think he would've been much more hurt than Robin. This was the ONE time he opened his heart after all those years, and to have it broken like that... so sad :(
