Reviews for The Affair of the Stolen Dagger
Aziethe chapter 6 . 8/31/2011
Yay, I was so pleased about Soris holding his own. This pre-origin also serves to explain how he's used to following Tabris around and (not exactly comfortable, but not entirely useless) with killing people at the Arl of Denerim's estate. Nice to see the templars also failing to tighten their snare, as well.

I was a tad surprised that the issue of Shianni's trade didn't come up, since that was listed as one of the reasons for Tabris' nocturnal activities. I forget whether it's explicitly stated that Shianni is unemployed during the origin.

In regards to your question about the epilogue - if there isn't a happy ending, (and I really, really can't imagine one - at least not as to how I would define 'happy'), I would prefer to believe that Soris settles down with the mousy girl they arranged him to marry (she's come off quite likeably in some fic). If the canon Tabris origin occurs as designed, he's still married to her and she's alive. It seems incredibly boorish to discard her if she was raped (and then lied about it to save face - entirely plausible).

And I completely agree about the world building. It bugged me too that it was inconsistent. I did love that moment of horror/sorrow when the baby!city elves, playing in the back alleys, mention that they've never heard of an elven hero - omg BioWare broke my heart when I came across that for the first time.

Anyway, I enjoyed this very much, thanks for finishing it.

I enjoyed this. Good to see some Soris out there! ;) Thanks for reg updates!
Aziethe chapter 5 . 8/29/2011
Soris is so brave and so honest about his feelings here, it's impossible not to empathise with him.

Thinking further ahead, I'm wondering if you're going to do anything to reconcile the Soris epilogue where he marries a human woman. That always seemed to me to be such a bigger story than the game allows time for - who on earth in her right mind would /marry/ an elf, and an Alienage elf at that? What was he thinking, knowing that it would mean (presumably) losing ties with the rest of his family? How could he do that to his children, who would grow up with the stigma from both sides of being elf-blooded humans? It always irked me so much. It's hard to imagine a scenario imo where the relationship ends up being a happy one.
Aziethe chapter 4 . 8/25/2011
I suppose perhaps she's stashed the dagger or has more info which Soris might be able to follow up on?

Her poor father, I feel so sorry for him! No wonder he wanted her off and safely married!

Excellent!
Guest chapter 4 . 8/25/2011
Aww, the atmosphere of the prison makes me feel like having a shower, and I suppose there are even grimmer things to come. You capture very well here what being a city elf feels like.
Aziethe chapter 3 . 8/22/2011
Yay, you're back!

And yay, they haven't executed Kallian yet. Does that mean they didn't get the dagger off her, or are they trying to squeeze more information (or simply haven't had time to officially kill her?) Mm, poor Soris. I like seeing things from his pov; he doesn't usually get a voice in fic, and I love viewing the dangerous, unpleasant world of DAO through his eyes.
Judy chapter 3 . 8/22/2011
Very well done!
Ygrain33 chapter 3 . 8/22/2011
You're back, even if for a peep! Hoorah!
Aziethe chapter 1 . 4/10/2011
Also the title of this fic is awesome. It sounds so Victorian!
Aziethe chapter 2 . 4/10/2011
I love clueless!Soris! Badass!Tabris! Saving Money For Shianni because (insert reasons you used) omg ILU even more Tabris!
Ygrain33 chapter 2 . 4/10/2011
Certainly not the genre I expected from the summary, but it was a _highly_ appreciated surprise. Well done!
Witchy Bee chapter 2 . 4/10/2011
As always, your writing is clever and full of beautiful and sometimes horrific imagery. It really is like a play.

There were a few times when you forgot to put spaces between two words, but it was rare.

I'm sure you'll figure out what should happen next. I certainly can't wait!
