I understand from my understanding of that particular aspect of culture, is that Genma has committed sepukku.

I find it interesting that Genma claimed that the future of his son was either as the greatest martial artist of an era - or completely inexistent.

What I have seen implies two things.
1) It is likely that some of the actions of Genma Saotome, or consequences of actions of his ancestors, that have put Genma Saotome's child in this predicament.
2) Happosai, supposed Grandmaster of Anything Goes Martial Arts, is unable or unwilling to intercede in a meaningful manner. I would have thought he'd intercede for one of his students, even if in some small manner.

Another possible attendum. We have yet to know just how much Genma Saotome's development, and his research in martial arts techniques, was driven by this situation. Certainly, he made that gamble with Neko Ken. But... What about techniques he created for his own use? Way of the Quiet Thief. Way of the Loud Thief. An extremely effective concealment technique. An extremely damaging attack. A way to hide. A way to fight.

Why is it all the good Ranma fics always die, unfinished, just when I get interested in them?

You got the start to a interesting story, obviously Genma is now dead and if he was head of the clan, that now falls to Ranma and therefore he has say so on all engagements made by his father.

This is more a comment about your AN about Lux rather than this story...but I would mention that both Konoka and Setsuna give indications of swinging both ways. Something could be made of that with Ranma, if one perhaps considered it.

Almost every character in Ranma 1/2 is a horrible person if you take things seriously. Almost every major character has tried to kill him at least once.

Nice first chapter build-up, but I can't evaluate further without knowing more.

Well, will be looking forward to what happens next with what it is that Genma has managed to call down on Ranma and company, along with what it might mean next for all the others involved in this knot. Also agree a lot about the Amazons here, and think that it takes a lot of bending to be able to change things to where they're a viable set up for Ranma.

this seems to be off to a good start. you've really pulled me into the story already, and I can't wait to see where it goes. the whole deal (along with the title) seems sinister and intriguing. I like how you portrayed the characters as more real life than manga-life, more developed and "natural" such as the Tendo girl's reactions to Genma's actions and more understanding of Ranma.

Now we watch to see what happens next wondering all the while what twist would come next for I for one don't really know but can't wait to find out.
