Beautifully done.
Thank you for sharing.
librarywitch chapter 1 . 10/21/2013
Wow, once again you just keep getting better at this. Well done. Needs a Kleenex alert though.
smile-clarenet chapter 1 . 8/29/2011
That was so sweet. You write Sherlock grieving so well.
Amnity125 chapter 1 . 5/27/2011
I think this may be my absolute favourite of all the things you've written. I love the way you focus in on Sherlock's movements and the sensations he's experiencing, intertwining the physical with the emotional as though they're the same thing (which, to Sherlock, I suppose they are). Also love the long rambling sentences with millions of clauses, tracing Sherlock's thought patterns; the line about the sledge-hammer and not being strong enough to use it is genius, layering the emotional connotations of the phrase over Sherlock's preoccupation with logic and practical deductions. The 'conversation' (or lack thereof) with Mycroft is perfect too; silence is exactly right. Thanks for continuing to write such great stuff!

PS Sorry for the long gap between reviews... I'm having a break from revision so expect a massive review splurge :D
ChameleonCircuit chapter 1 . 5/23/2011
This is really beautiful...

Mycroft and Sherlock's relationship is perfect... Everything is perfect... You can tell just by reading your stories that you've invested yourself emotionally in all the characters and into the stories themselves, and that brings life to each and every one, and that life makes them so much more beautiful and so much more real.
partlyironic chapter 1 . 5/17/2011
I always love stories about Mycroft and Sherlock's relationship and I think this is more about that than even Sherlock's grief over losing their mother. The idea of Mycroft and Sherlock listening to one another all night makes my heart break. They so rarely listen to one another at all.

Expect a huge review dump coming your way. I have a brief respite between exams with which to catch up on your story before I have to firmly put my nose back to the grindstone...
Hufflepuffpride42 chapter 1 . 5/16/2011
Ok, apart from making me a little scared the world is about to end because Sherlock has gone to Mycroft for comfort (sort of), this is wonderful :)

The best part is that they don't actually talk. I find it hard to think of them talking to each other about their feelings, the silence, however, works really well. And I like Mycroft being in Edinburgh with Angela and David. And I love that the first thing they do when they talk to each other is work out where they are. Only the Holmes brothers :)

Really want to give Sherlock a hug.

beautiful
your-icequeen chapter 1 . 5/15/2011
It's always a little disheartening when Sherlock has to turn to Mycroft, which is what makes this so special.
HOS70 chapter 1 . 5/15/2011
I know that feeling exactly: being on the phone to someone who understands, not talking, just feeling connected. Poor Sherlock. Thanks to Mycroft for calling John to come pick Sherlock off the stairs, and to John for being there.
Izzyaro chapter 1 . 5/15/2011
That was brilliant. I really loved the way you wrote the relationship between Sherlock and Myroft.
mustangwoman chapter 1 . 5/15/2011
Beautiful! My father has been gone 6 years and I still have dreams [visits?] of him like that on occasion. Your description of the feeling upon waking, the lingering sensation of the dream's reality, is spot on. The phone call to Mycroft is perfectly depicted, too. They are able to use few words to discuss things about which they are at odds; it makes sense that they would need no words for something they share deeply. I love the touch at the end where Mycroft calls John. An understated yet clear expression of brotherly love.
