To tell you the truth, I sort of wish you hadn't written a sequel to Thousand Words. The quality of that piece is several planes above this one; when I got to the final author note here, I was at first shocked to learn you were just 16 when you wrote this (15 for Thousand Words! Unbelievable!), and then not surprised. The scene with Zuko meditating is mostly fine (though I was not a huge fan of Kai La's lack of composure), but the quality slipped a little on the voyage South, namely with regard to narrative pacing. Similarly, I didn't understand the significance of the bending display/festival aside from providing a political reason for Zuko's visit, and the proposal was somewhat hasty and out of character.

In essence, it seems like the problem with this story in comparison to the other is that here, you're cramming five or six 2,000-word stories/chapters into a single punch, and that created some narrative hastiness. Contrastingly, Thousand Words was a single scene that you wrote out in very striking and eloquent detail and ended on an open note that still left me with a sense that I knew exactly what was going to happen, so the ending was already satisfying. I'd have liked to see more here about Zuko asking for Katara's hand, maybe even a bit more on his thought processes upon learning Katara had found the book. You got into Katara's head better than Zuko's, I think.

I noticed on your profile that you haven't written much ATLA fiction since 2011; if you ever return to it, those might be some things to work on. :) That said - though I'm sure you've matured as a writer, you showed some true inspiration in Thousand Words, and I hope you can tap into that again. x

WHY IS ZUKO SO WONDERFULLY SWEET AND ADORABLY WRITTEN? WHY IS THIS SO FLUFFY AND PRETTY AND IT'S MAKING YM FANGIRL HEART SWELL WITH LOVE AND THIS IS THE PERFECT ENDING FOR IT!

Even though I wouldn't complain if we get to see their children next!

I don't know why but Zuko and a sketchbook is just such a wonderful idea to me 33

Much love for both parts, I absolutely adore your writing style /

Cheers!

Aw, don't worry. Everyone says, even the great ones, that writing Iroh is hard. Because he's so wise, yet so full of light humor and advice and tea making and fighting skills and...he has a lot of qualities. It's very hard to write a character as beloved as Iroh.

I felt like cheering myself during Zuko's proposal! This was sweet!
