I adore that Dean invented the freaking brace and Sam made sure the larger world benefitted (plus some financial woes were addressed). Poor boys, though. Ouch, with the ankles! As usual, you are terrific at capturing their banter throughout. :)

This is so full of awesome! I love Dean's ingenuity in this, and the way he doesn't realize how totally awesome he is.

Had to Google that leg brace and see it in action, and had to smile that it was demonstrated by Dr Jensen!
Awesome story, only Sam would get thrown by a spirit and land on ground that then subsided, finding him holding onto a tree root which then snapped, having him hurtle to the ground 30 feet below! Perfect he also had a dislocated shoulder in addition to his broken ankle, meaning he couldn't use crutches! And could so imagine Dean inventing the leg brace, he is as clever as Sam, just more with his hands than his brain, which balances Sam out as he is the opposite, enabling Sam to be mobile ... and less frustrated! Great concluding part of the story, and how mean are you, having Dean run over by his baby being driving by a spirit, breaking his ankle and the hospital coming up with the leg brace as a solution. And typical of Sam to realise its potential, and registering a patent for it so Dean could claim the royalties. And perfect too Sam's payback of a pink cast, definitely payback for Dean choosing a bright green one which he decorated with pink hearts for Sam.

I'm so glad to see this story making use of Dean's inventive and engineering talents. It's kind of interesting to think about what kinds of things he could do if he were to put his mind to them. I love that Dean's sole focus on creating the brace was to help Sam and that Sam is the one to have it patented in Dean's name. Yay Winchesters!

This was made of so much awesome! The brotherly interactions were simply perfect. And you're absolutely right, we haven't seen much of this side of Dean since S1. The whole story (well, other than the actual falling off the cliff) had me grinning like an idiot.

I really enjoyed this story! The parallels of both boys having broken legs, and both doing or creating something for the other was fantastic! I could easily imagine Dean doing something creative like that, which of course leaves Sam for the logistics of the paper work! Neat idea!

I just finished reading the story you posted today and remembered I never thanked you for sharing this one with us.

I love how you wrote Dean. I could imagine the terror he felt as he watched Sam fall and worrying whether his little brother would be OK.

I felt sorry for Sam when he was stuck in the wheelchair. My sister was in one for over 4 months, so I know how Dean felt as he watched his brother be depressed.

Not all writers remember Dean is smart or write him that way. So I had to smile when he invented the device for Sam to walk while he was recovering. It got Sam out of the wheelchair.

When Sam told Dean he owned the patent on the Freedom Brace, that sounded like something Sam would think of doing.

I enjoyed reading your story. You did a great job writing Dean and I loved the brother moments.
