I was intruiged by an AU like this and I'm glad I found this story! I admit I kept getting confused over which woman was meant to be Katniss's original mother, Larkspur or Mahra, but I guess it doesn't really matter since both Katniss and Peeta's mothers are pretty unimportant in the series anyway. But this was a fun exploration of how one difference to the story changes things. The little details in this are so good - goat's cheese dissolving on her tongue, a sweater instead of burnt bread. I love all the little parallels to the games too - the nightlock berries, Peat fighting Tate like Thresh fighting Clove, Annie drowning instead of winning her games. Madge was a good supporting character too, it was nice to see a little focus put on her. And BAKING INNUENDO! I wonder if the girl Tribute called would change, or if it would still be Katna who volunteered?

Still amazing

I love your Toast series. The different parts are so original and fascinating. Your stories have the same flavor of the dystopian world of Panem but the changes you make place the characters in new and interesting predicaments. And you still manage to keep the bits and pieces that keep Katniss and Peeta themselves. I know you're probably not likely to continue this, but if you have the inspiration to I'd love to read it (and I'm sure many others would as well). This is a great installment. Really well done!
