Loved this. Read Magwitch yesterday and then yhis. Normally jubious of long stories but this kept you interested in every single chapter! So much plot. Loved the part about the waterfall and Ianto saving jack, which is then swapped with jack saving into from unit. Jack thinking Ianto's dead for a second was almost too much! Also the undercover conversation through the ear piece- Awesome!
Plus the Dragon - so cute, hope he's in the next fic. Talking about that - better go and read it

I hope there was demand because I can hardly wait to get started on the sequel. This was truly grand!

You write such wonderfully involved stories. Takes me a loooong time to read them right now, but never a disappointment.

This was a fantastic read! It had a little bit of everything...angst, fluff, mystery, action, romance...did I mention angst? You do like to whump on Ianto, don't you? But what I love is that he stays strong and comes out even stronger! Fics that torture Ianto just to see him break down and cry so Jack can wrap his big strong arms around him don't do it for me. This was much more realistic, from the characterization to the plot, right to the end.
I should have remarked on chapters as I read, but as I'm sneaking it in whilst out of town, this is easier. So I'll probably forget some of the great parts I wanted to mention. One thing that did jump out at me was the seamless way so many things from DW were mentioned and brought in, like the Sycorax weapon in particular.
I also love a well played fic that sees Ianto discovered, usually by UNIT, for what he did with Lisa. Because it makes sense that Jack would handle it, but also that somehow someone might find out. That was well done, the blackmail first one way and then the other. The stuff with the cyber tech was brilliant but brutal. Poor Ianto!
I loved how selfless Ianto was, it seems very in character yet wasn't over the top. Even better is that your Jack recognizes it, yay! I also appreciated how Gwen was not an overbearing force here, even though those qualities were still in play. Loved Tosh and Owen even more-there is little better than a caring Owen! And Rhys was awesome! He totally doesn't deserve Gwen sometimes, I think.
The chess references were great, and the ending was awesome, with the hints of more. I need to go back and review Magwich, but I suspect I'll read Checkmate before that and then have to refresh my memory! Either way, I enjoyed the first one and the second one and look forward to the third one! Thank you for some great reading this week!

They should also look at his record for the years after the "insident".

He should have started with the weevel virus' and him being infected and left for dead and Copley and Gage coming in and taking the weapons from Torchwood. And someone should bring up the fact that they are listening to traitors and some in UNIT itself about Ianto. And isn't Torchwood still higher ranking than UNIT? So Jack would have to be removed by the Queen, not UNIT. I know I am really behind. This was posted long, long ago. But I just had to voice my thoughts.

Jack told Ianto his biggest fear was that he would hate him. The rest can fuck off. Gwen thinks she is so righteous. She would cut someones throat to get what she wanted. As she showed in MD. Jack at least doesn't have self-serving ideas.

I have to say as much as I loved Magwitch this one has something about it that stands out above that. You have a grasp on the characters that I can appreciate and even though there would be times I would be tempted to take my feelings more to the extreme, the fact that you don't says a lot about how you feel in the guise of staying true to the story. I also have to comment on the Martha stuff - I agree with the whole blind following thing and have said before that the character is wearing blinders similar to Gwen's. Excellent story - well thought out and again, never jarred from it by characters that don't ring true or moments that are so far-fetched they appear wrong. Now - on to the next!

Great building of tension - you feel Jack's desperation (actually the team's) and then Ianto's attempt to remain stoic in the face of it all.

You do have a knack for ratcheting up the tension don't you? So glad there is no waiting for the next bit.

Ok, really, just once I would like to see Jack and/or Ianto just let loose on Gwen for her selfishness and Owen for his absolute inability to think before he speaks. I love Owen, I love his snarky attitude, but sometimes (and this was true in the show, another example of knowing your characters) he really needed to be bitchslapped.

You so get Ianto - he is a much stronger man than most give him credit for even as his heart is breaking for what Jack has suffered and he feels responsible for he's doing what needs to be done, not crying in the corner.
