Reviews for Journey of a Thousand Miles
vifetoile89 chapter 1 . 2/3/2013
This story is incredible, beautifully written and marvelously effective.

What's so powerful about this story is the way in which you manage to convey Kanna's emotions and determination with so few words. It leaves a story that is precise and elegant as a haiku - every single word has a place and a reason to be there. The nostalgia attached to the necklace, her loneliness in the Cave of Two Lovers, her mistrust of Ba Sing Se.

Also, I like how what Hama mentions about the Southern Water Tribe is the dire straits it's in, how they need able-bodied people. Nothing really welcoming or kind, but the sort of remark that reflects the bare-bones, hardscrabble life Kanna has been living up to now. So it suits her far better than immediate luxury or welcome would have.

You can literally feel the exhaustion as you read Kanna's thoughts. Good job dealing with her pain as she travels south. And I thought the fact that she met up with Hama was a nice touch. :)

Passionworks chapter 1 . 3/9/2012
Wow, this was wonderful :) Beautifully artistic, and worth every second I spent reading it. With what few words you used to describe Kanna's journey, I felt every ounce of her pain, every ache she might have felt... Ah, my review only stands as tiny might to the power of emotion the fic brought to me. In truth, this truly is a piece of art.

Please, keep writing. I love your work. You have honest talent that deserves much recognition within this fandom. :)

juemengci chapter 1 . 3/7/2012
I figured it out about two sections away from the ending. I had a feeling she was a Water Tribe girl, but I never thought about Kanna until I suddenly remembered that she was a character.

It's funny, I looked at this title and instantly thought of a fic I had written (with basically the same name except "s" after journey and "three" before thousand) and thought "HOLY COW DID I UPDATE THIS?" And then I read your name, and I just mouthed "oh".

In a way, though, the title is really appropriate, because you do such a great job with a simple words outlining her journey, and what a journey it is. She seems to go through so many known places that the Avatar travels, and we learn so much about the world in the short time you give us.

It's a desolate world out there, where people are trying to make ends meet and mean people taking advantage of one another. We see all of this through Kanna's eyes and the descriptions just fill the reader with emotion because I can feel how sad Kanna is about everything she's going through.

You're awesome, as usual.
