This is perfect! It fits so well with my idea of their relationship, and it would have been amazing to have this, or something like it, in the episode! :)

I LIKE this! I really like this! While I personally don't think this conversation would have happened, I think the Doctor's opinion of River is spot on. And I love the bit about how with Time Lords looks don't matter, because they change their faces.
And she did want to be the woman he trusted. And that's who she IS. Always.
Always.

(But he DID save her at the library. In a literal sense.)

I loved the way that bantered back and froth in this story. The doctor acting like its horrible to describe her, but giving a description that shows how much he loves River, the future River. I also liked how he could see the future River in her even if she was still Mels.

I also liked Mels, the way she seemed annoyed, even if the doctor was describing her. I also loved the almost weakness that she shows when she asks about trust. It really proves that Mel wanted what most people want but don't get- a trust that defines logic. The doctor gives her that, and I feel thats what swayed her.

I feel like through this whole thing Melody would be thinking "God I hate this River woman, how can she be all that and have him talk about her with so much love." Damn I wish someone would describe me that way someday!

I wonder though, quite how Melody got to taking the TARDIS to rescue her parents. I'd maybe throw in a line about how if River was there she'd leave him to die alone, take the TARDIS and rescue Amy and Rory, because that was the right thing to do. Or something like that. Almost like the Doctor was daring her to do that, 'cos I think that's what Melody would respond to.

Sorry, long review, but I really liked the fic, just felt there was a tiny bit of the missing scene still missing. :-)

I agree. This scene had to take place. I can so see Mels wanting to become that brave, intrepid, impossible woman. Someone that he admires, that he finds amazing.

Beautifully written. I could really hear the young River's/Mel's voice in that.

I absolutely adore the way that you showed the relationship between River and the Doctor. It's so adorable how he's trying to describe her. The lines- "She contradicts me. Challenges me." and, "I've left out the best bit about her. . . She's smart." are absolutely perfect to describe River. Congrats, this is a really awesome ficlet!

That was great! There's definitely a scene missing in that episode at that point. I get the impression that Moff keeps a lot of what happens between them 'private'. Nice scene and lovely dialogue and introspection. x
