Back when the waiter started walking off and Austin kept teasing him as he left I would have made Ally slap some sense into him. Look, this is what I would make her say after she slapped him.

"What the hell what that?" Ally retorted. Austin stopped laughing and glared at her. "You just slapped me!" Austin said angrily. "You were being very immature and stupid!" Ally said. And then the fight would would carry on just as the author wrote. Then after the dinner, I would want Ally to say this instead.

"You know what, Austin? I'm done! I can't believe you! You think I asked for this? See? This us why I didn't want to do this shit in the first place! I knew it would ruin our friendship! But because I wanted to make you happy I went along and did it to save your ass! Now you could date bears for all I care! I'm done, Austin! Done!" and then Ally leaves.

I was hoping she would have played along.

Awe, I want the kiss to come from the heart, not force.
