Reviews for Dust Devils
B chapter 21 . 3/24
The first time I read your story it was 2014 (I think) now it’s 2020 and I’m about to graduate college haha, let me tell you one thing, I remember finishing it and thinking this could be a fucking movie or an actual episode! I read it again today in one sitting I still believe that it could be an actual ep or an original movie! Seriously it’s that good. You’re very talented and I hope you know that.
cfccfc chapter 21 . 11/7/2018
I read it again. I cried again. Multiple readings have not lessened this story's impact. It has a brilliant plot with perfect pacing, incredible visuals, and feels that don't quit, even after that last "Everything is fine." Hands down, my favorite book ever, fanfic or otherwise.
sunshine102897 chapter 21 . 2/5/2018
Well. I'm just gonna go cry. Forever. I read this in record time. Literally could not put it down it was so amazing and heartbreaking.
water4willows chapter 21 . 1/24/2018
I think this little piece of brilliance was the first story I ever read where I realized fan fic works could be just as good as published books. Reading it through again for the first time in many years, I’m struck by how very bittersweet it all is. Maybe I’m older and wiser now, but I wept for Dean’s sacrifice here. For the family he’ll never have and the things he has to tell himself in order to be ok with that. Your attention to detail is really superb. After watching Ken Burns dust bowl documentary I remembered this fic and started reading it again. I was instantly transported into your world and fell in love with everyone all over again. The attention and love you put into this must have been astronomical. I know it’s been out on the interwebs for many years, but I hope you know your words continue to awe and inspire. Thank you for all your hard work. For making me laugh, cry, howl with rage and shake my head at our impossibly flawed Dean. ‘If it rains’ indeed.
Guest chapter 21 . 12/7/2017
This story is phenomenal. You created characters that are lovable and believable and who I cared for. I have read this story a few times, it never gets boring. Thank you!
Mydarkside975 chapter 21 . 11/30/2016
This broke my heart...beautiful!
ngregory763 chapter 21 . 9/24/2016
This story grabbed my attention and didn't let go! So vivid and well told, THANK YOU!
MeAzrael chapter 21 . 7/24/2016
Thank you so much for a story that was fascinating and exciting in so many ways. Not only because you created so vivid characters to love or hate, but also because you took me to a great journey back in time, which made me look up pictures and stories about the dust bowl and led finally to Steinbeck's "Grapes of wrath", and I have to say, that book touched my heart and gave me some amazing revelations. I'd never thought that some of the less nice inventions of modern society are so old - reading about Hoovervilles and wage dumping and the power of banks and large landholders was like reading the more critical newspapers today. Crazy world.

Anyway: You did a wonderful job to make us readers skip between the different times and worlds. You included some rather difficult topics with so much care and consideration and yes, I loved Bell and her mum as much as Dean did, and I loved to see Dean trying to blend in and find a life for himself. I'm a bit sad that he couldn't find the peace I would have wished for him, but well - that's how is it supposed to be for a Winchester, right? It was good to see Bobby and Ellen again, too - I still miss them. I'm not a native speaker but I think the slang added a good deal to the authenticity of your story. Thank you so much for sharing it :-)

xx Kate
Cimamango chapter 21 . 4/3/2016
Wow- absolutely loved this. Thanks so much for writing.
Shazza85 chapter 21 . 4/1/2016
Well now, that was truly a wonderful read! You are definitely right about modern day folks not knowing how easy their lives are, at least in the physical sense. My mother and dad both grew up on farms in Kansas and SE Colorado. I remember my Grandmother telling me about the women who went insane because of the dust and the wind! Bel is certainly now one of my favorite characters, smart, feisty and loving. I think Dean would have had a good life with his girls, but I know he needed to end up with Sam. I live in Boulder and the hubs has been skiing the past two days. I usually don't get to just set and read a story almost straight through. I'm glad that I got to spend this time in your world and look forward to exploring other stories with you. Once again, thanks for your time and talent, and for helping me celebrate my own good fortune!
Shazza85 chapter 20 . 4/1/2016
This Chapter was so fulfilling, the healing of Dean and the love he still shared with Emma and Bel were to quote the man "awesome". I thought that Emma might be one of the two spirits bound when you wrote that one of them was pure white. Damn Slaid was never more than a grey oily human, same goes for his ghost! I look forward to the last chapter, especially sine I see more of your stories listed.
Shazza85 chapter 17 . 4/1/2016
Oh I'm so glad there is a touch of good supernatural power in this chapter. I find I actually miss that on the show. Obviously I couldn't stop at just one more chapter!
Shazza85 chapter 14 . 3/31/2016
Whoop! I was hoping Mad Dog would be Bel. Deans sure had the hurt in this chapter, perhaps there will be some comfort in the next!
Shazza85 chapter 13 . 3/31/2016
Wow, that chapter was a devil of a ride! You do a very good job at going back and forth between the time periods, having a lot happening in both of them. Bel's little friend was such a great character, she didn't know the rule of don't be a side character in a Winchester World. I guess it took something as tragic as her death to power up the Hala! One more chapter before bed.
Shazza85 chapter 10 . 3/31/2016
Oh Dean your always just so " fine" until damned if your not fine at all. A harrowing chapter!
