Wonderful introspection on LaCroix's character. He is the most interesting in the game I think since we see the most of him regarding development and relationship to our character. The others are interesting characters to meet - I like Bertram Tung and Beckett the best I think - but for the most part you just encounter them and some make a larger than life impression (Gary Golden) and are memorable, but you don't actually see any character development with them.
LaCroix is presented as the villain - the prince who no one likes. In some ways you can feel sympathetic to him because the game makes him so temperamental and treacherous. but look at it the other way and he's a tragic figure - everything is stacked against him yet he cannot be a fool - he obviously has wealth, success and power. Perhaps it's a flaw of the games production issues or I just like LaCroix too much :) but in an RPG about the shades of grey of people you encounter, it's a bit heavy handed with a comic book villain LaCroix. He's like a stereotypical 'fascist nazi' character (blonde blue eyed, authoritarian and evil) yawn.
but he's a wonderful character and this writing does him justice by giving him a fairer hearing. :)

I enjoy this one-shot so thoroughly, I end up reading it again and again. The way you capture how animalistically disciplined and duplicitous he is, is delicious. I look forward to your future work!

In other words, he is the PERFECT VENTRUE. Save perhaps for the diablierizing his sire bit... and even then, that's just him applying the lessons of his clan a little too well!

I agree, a lot of NPCs in Bloodlines hint at vast unexplored backgrounds that just beg to be charted. Take LaCroix himself: "I was once an officer..." ...Yes? Tell me more? Damnation!

That's what makes VTMB so great and I must add, your take on these unplotted lands is always a wonderful read. I eagerly await the next report!

PS: So diablerism is a repeat offense then? Truly you cannot change a leopard's spots...
