This is a great story, in the end I am laughing and crying at the same time. Your story tends to have that kind of effects on me.

As a Chinese I am very familiar with the legend of the mysterious red threads that tie couples. I would like to make some points:

First, the red threads are supposed to tie the couple's ankles, not hands. :)

The most important thing is that the threads tie future legally married couples, NOT lovers and certainly not soul mates. It is more about fate rather than love.

You can read the original story here ( wiki/Yue-Laou), the young man in the story hated his future fiancee so much he hired an assassin to murder her but he still ended up marrying her, so you can see this is about all about fate, not love.

According to this legend, Alexander's red thread would tie with Roxanne and Stateira, and Phai's tied with Drypetis. That really didn't sound romantic or interesting, did it?

Of course, I love your version of the story much better. Still, it won't hurt to hear the truth of the original legend!

This is a lovely tale about eternal friendship. The Red Threads uniting friends and couples are deeply moving and highly emotional. I find it especially interesting how it becomes more solid through the years. The silver and golden threads uniting their hearts together is a lovely parable for Eternity.

The last part of this story just made me cry. It was so beautifully expressed what I think Alexander must really have felt - without Hephaistion in his life. Just a lovely story and so unique. Thank you.
