Reviews for The Queen and The Bow
HAFanForever chapter 1 . 10/6/2012
Hey, yet another cool one! I love this idea on how Elinor and Merida work together on making the new tapestry together. I guess it'd make sense for it to be Merida's idea, especially to make up for her ruining the other one. But it's a great idea because it definitely shows what they learned about each other and themselves, and how they preserved their friendship and how their love for each other overcame all of the odds. I mean, this may not be a boy-girl romance story, but all the same, love conquers all.

I know Elinor would be proud of Merida for doing work on the tapestry, and I like Merida's offer to teach archery to her mother. It's obvious Elinor dislikes archery since it's not proper, but it piques my curiosity on why she never forbade it or even took Merida's bow away from her. I guess as a mother, she couldn't stop Merida from doing something that she loved most, and most especially with the bow, since it was a birthday gift from Fergus. When she burned it, that really got me because she finally tried to get rid of it and never had before, which is probably because, as I said before, she knew archery was important to Merida and didn't have the heart to forbid her from doing it. Merida saw Elinor's action of burning the bow as a huge betrayal. It's just a shame that Merida didn't see Elinor retrieve the bow out of the fire. To me, it showed that Elinor didn't really intend to hurt it, especially since she obviously looks guilty and starts crying after she gets it out. She just did it in the heat of her anger because Merida had just damaged the tapestry, which was important to Elinor. It was a situation of "an eye for an eye," in a way.

Yeah, I KNEW Elinor would present Merida with her old bow! :D And just like I said, Merida didn't see Elinor fish the bow out, and that just showed the audience that Elinor DOES care about what Merida likes and what matters to her, even though it's obvious that Merida (at least by that point) thinks just the opposite. And I can see Elinor wondering what Merida is thinking after all of this. They both have a right to be angry, and they both are at fault with the situation. Like in that scene where each of them practices what to say to the other, it shows that talking it all out and listening to the other is just what they need to do to mend their relationship. And after their adventure together, they are both genuinely sorry for the pain they caused to themselves and to each other.

I can see Elinor being surprised by whenever Merida hugs her, since they most likely have not been affectionate with each other for years, and I bet the first time in a long time was the morning Elinor changed back. And heck, I have a hunch that Elinor has not kissed Merida so lovingly in a long time when she kissed her all over the face on that morning as well. I just love that moment since it's so sweet and cute of Elinor to show her love for Merida by doing it that much, but also because their love for each other is strong once again. They've learned to understand and appreciate their differences and they love each other just the way there are. From that point on, they'll spend more time together and enjoy each other's company.

Another great story for this awesome mother and daughter! :)
