luna chapter 1 . 11/4/2014
The way you write is so lovely and heart breakingly beautiful. I absolutely adore how you built up their relationship, it seems veey natural and I think reflects the closeness of their bond really well. I love this story immensely.
Serendipily chapter 1 . 3/14/2013
Oh my god, can we all just sit down and have a nice long talk about every single microscopic detail of this fic, because holy fuck. If there had to be a way to describe the utter heartbreaking bond between any two people, and their bond that breaks a thousand, it has to be this fic. It has to be. There are no doubts.
This, in everything that it is, is bromotions. It settles above the surface of being and encompassing everything these two fabulous bending brothers hold. It’s just. My god. I can’t even.
Everything is so well thought out and so well planned and executed that there are no loopholes, no sketchy unforeseen half-truths. The story itself is so tight knit that, it’s becoming one of those fics where I don’t’ remember if it’s fiction or if it’s cannon and it makes everything hurt all that much better.
I just love the way the images of good times and bad times are posed because it’s an honest representation of Mako and Bolin’s times. They have family traditions, though vague and small, and clouded over, that are upheld. The idea of home, the idea that the soul is centered and tethered around the idea of home and family and tradition becomes a prominent theme and it shines through in the little things whether they be Saturday-night-pro-bending-matches or tangerines. The idea that these litter traditions is what keeps the relationship alive, what keeps them thriving and fighting, and living, oh wow.
And more so, the idea behind this relationship, filled with yes protectiveness and coddling and secrets, and desperation, is felt on both parts. In most reads, it’s usually Mako who suffers alone and Bolin who takes a glimpse from the sidelines, but in this, it’s so fleshy and exposed. Bolin eats the pain as much as Mako. It’s most evident in II with the tears they shed and the strife they fight through together. The sadness, it’s punctuated in every blow , every hint at street life, every passing mention of Mako’s attempts to keep them alive.
But I love how they share nearly everything, pain or happiness, especially in the little exert about their father’s scarf. Their. Christ, don’t even get me started on this scene because I was already kind of a weepy mess, but that part really did it for me. That scarf, through whatever connotation is the last link they have to their father, and in a sense, it’s beautifully symbolized that it’s become what they are to each other and their life; no matter what gets torn or frayed, the scarf stays in tact, and it can be mended, just like their bond and their relationship.
And the last part is almost a partially deserved highlight. Because these two street rat brothers, make a better life for themselves, and they don’t lose each other even when they’re apart. It’s so cleverly done and so intricately and so obviously in character. Their chaste and brief messages, and the miles in between them. They’ve been through so much, the miles are just a figment, and it doesn’t matter how much they say because they’re relationship holds firm in that way. It sustains.
And I’m a real sucker for brotherly moments. Especially the teasing kind. I love how neatly the ending was wrapped up, how all the traditions were pulled back into the final moment in the midst of their brotherly love.
This story is wonderful. I really wish there were more like it’s kind, but this one is unique.

That was beautifully written! It was so sweet from Bos point of view when they were children. This was very well put together!
turtleducklings chapter 1 . 8/24/2012
oh my god just.

what.

why.

how.

every time i read anything you write i get really emotional because your words are so damn beautiful and i.

you just make it look so effortless ok?

anyway. this was gorgeous. i've probably said this before, but i love love love your characterizations. bolin's especially.

[The money Bolin's earned from his first run is barely enough to buy just one tangerine, so they end up sharing the fruit (Mako trying and failing to slip Bolin the bigger half), laughing with wings under their voices and fingers coated in sticky juice against the howling winds and bitter snow outside.

Bolin's never known luck, and maybe he'll never know wealth; but in that moment, with Mako's still-damp face pressed against the crown of his head, Bolin thinks that happiness tastes of sweet tangerines and salt water.]

jhsfhkjafhkafskhj this passage is so pretty. it was probably my favorite section from this whole thing, but honestly all of it was lovely.

this was so great :3
