What killed Loki? Why was he dying?

I loved how in the beginning Loki seemed like the mad, bad guy, but in the end he was just needing Thor's love. Very good story.

Listening "Battle for the Sun" (soooo Loki) while I was reading the first part of your story and "Safe and Sound" during the second was an awfull idea: I'm crying and tearing and sobbing (yes I know tearing and sobbing are normal things if I'm crying but well).

Why did Loki die? Did he have an illness? Or is it because he learnt he was a Jotun (Frostgiant) ?
