I really love this story so far and really appreciate the accuracy you keep towards Tolkien's wonderfully built universe!

I however would like to draw your attention to the fact that Middle Earth has indeed knowledge of potatoes (which are not cooked by Sam somewhere in Ithilien both in the books and films), tea (mentioned several times throughout The Hobbit and sometimes during the Lord of The Rings, albeit mostly in the Shire, but mentioned still, Tolkien was English after all), and coffee (one of the dwarves asks for a pot of coffee during this unexpected party in Bag End if I recall correctly). I can't think of any appaerence of tomatoes except for that one time on Weathertop, but only in the movies.
Chocolate, however, has never been mentioned to my knowledge.

Still it is indeed possible that, Tolkien having presented his work more as a translation and compilation of historical sources originated from Middle Earth than an original story of his composition, the terms potatoes or coffee should stand as the closest equivalent in our world to dishes present only in Middle Earth, but two elements could contradict this hypothesis:
1- some other dishes like lembas or plants like mellyrn are not given any equivalent, though that could be explained by the fact that the Red Book was written by Hobbits to whom they seemed as foreign as they are to us.
2- Tolkien also presented the world as he discribed as an older version of our own (see for example the prologue to The Lord of the Rings) which would render more likely the fact that Middle Earth potatoes and our own are in fact the same or present very little variations.

Thank you if you took the time to read all of that and excused my likely grammar faults as I am still learning :)

Not to be picky or anything, but it is actually the other way around. It where settlers from Europe that went to America in the 1700’s. So the English the Americans speak is mostly taken from British English. And before that the Vikings, and now English has influenced many European languages.
