Colonel? Captainrank 06 navy. Colonel06 Marine. Captain in the Marines would only be an 03.. and she was Commander in the Navy... an 05. Shep's next rank after Alliance navy captain should be an 07 Rear Admiral. Did she switch branches suddenly? Why?

I've read the whole trilogy series and I absolutely love it but this part is the most heartbreaking to me. Knowing Del's gone I can't make myself to read the rest of the series, sorry. In my headcanon Shepard was given life as long as Liara's as a "tank you" gift from Leviathans for destroying their messy project that wiped out civilizations over and over again for millennia. I believe they had enough power to make Shepard's synthetics and cybernetics connected to Liara's life and thanks to that the moment Liara dies, Shepard do too. If she's careful with her own life, of course - she can be killed but she won't die from illness or old age. Maybe one day someone will write a fanfic with this solution. I keep hoping and dreaming.

She's not even dead, yet, and Melara's memories have me tearing up.

I think I'm finally ready to check out the final book. I had to take a little break after the death of Shepard at old age because it was such a heartfelt and perfect end. But as they say, life goes on, and the story never ends. Keep up the great work. You have real style. I'm also working on something myself at the moment. I'd be honored if you checked it out.

You know what? I find it a little bit rediculous how anyone could be this good of a writer. I started dark energy 1 like 4 days ago...I haven't really slept since. This series is easily the best collection of ANYTHING I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing in my entire life. I would like to thank the author for putting this out on the Internet for all of us unworthy subjects to read. It's given me such a level of joy and suspense I often found myself skipping full paragraphs to find out what happens next. Not to mention I've lost weight because I couldn't take my eyes off this long enough to EAT. Great work author, you're kind of my hero now... Just saying.

You know all those complaints I had about DE 2 and 3? The parts that annoyed me - not enough to make me dislike the stories, but enough to mention?

Forget those, this was terrific.

I love that you showed that Eir did have an ending at some point, and I look forward to seeing what that ending is. I was, to be sure, uncertain why Athena needed to be there, narratively, but she wasn't a bad point.

And the send-off for Shepard was pure perfection. She earned that happy ending. It was wonderful to see.

I'm looking forward to seeing DE5, but to be honest, I've had a lot of this universe in a very short amount of time. I'm going to lay off for a bit and come back to it when I'm ready to get going again. Thanks so much for posting; I look forward to seeing what's in the next.

Loved the story, just finished 4 up today, been wanting to finish this one since I've been a fan since you started writing 1 all those years ago. Though I have to admit, It bothers me that Liara promised Del that she will find someone else after Del passes... I can see someone who doesn't believe in a after life doing that, but seeing how religious the Asari are, I don't understand it. I've held that belief myself my whole life. I don't see how anyone could be with someone else after their love passes away. Kinda makes everything a tad awkward up in heaven. Afraid to even read part 5 because of that. Will more then likely ruin the whole series for me, is it ends up that way :(

Wow. What a tremendous story. You do better and better with emotion with each of these and I really compliment you on your growing talent in this area. I am particularly sensitive to Liara because I often feel that I walk alone and so very deeply empathize with her sense of bereavement. Thank you for this, I'll be looking forward to reading DE 5 soon.
