I just reread this chapter tonight and it's still just perfect. It's stuck with me since the first time I read it. I love that the chapter is so simple just them alone doing something mundane and talking but you've managed to make it so intimate. The image of them so many years later sitting in bed like that wrapping gifts for their four kids reflecting on the life they've shared but still with the same banter is so poignant.

Such a sweet and well written story. I love that you kept the tension so small in scope and let it be character driven. It's so sweet to see how in love they still are all those years later. Them lying in bed thinking about how things could have turned out differently was lovely. Also all the mentions of all the other characters lives were so fun.

You write April especially well, keeping her insecurity and nervousness but never making her hysterical. It's so interesting see how much she has matured and explore the different ways her insecurities might manifest at this stage in her life.

Jackson's happiness in getting the family life he always wanted was so lovely and true to character. That scene when he watches April kneel down and help Simon with his rocks fit so well. It feels right that considering Jackson's lonely childhood he could be drawn to April's warmth and strong sense of family.

Stop reading because when you find someone who writes well, you want to keep going. But I can't understand why every story is so overboard about how bad april is. She's not good at doing her daughters hair, but Jackson is.. Even though he never had any reason to be. She's too stupid because of her faith, she's way uglier than Jackson, she can't drive, she may get fat because her mom is, you always mention her faults and none of his. You even write it so that her kids think she's just their poor, dumb but lovable mom. The underlying feel is always that he's perfect but it's sweet that he had lowered himself and loves poor April anyway. It just gets to be too much after awhile. It should be way more balanced. No matter what image you want to portray, you should be trying to get your readers to still be rooting for both characters. The show is able to do this, these stories make you wonder what the point is in even being with her?

So cute. So great. The show has broken my heart and I would very much like for the writers to have Jackson and April work on their relationship and remember how to be friends while married and in love. So bless your heart for your fanfiction.
