I take it that you've given up on this story, as it's been 7 years now. Anyhow, I totally support an Kagehisa and Rin pairing.

One of the things that bothers me about Rin is her conflicting feelings about Anotsu. (I don't think she even notices it.) She goes on and on about how she hates him and wants him to atone for what he has done to her family but trusts her life in his hands. Blindfolded at that. It's hard for the reader to believe her words and engage in her feelings when her actions oppose them at every corner. She may have bouts of sensibility where she thinks about how easily he could kill her but those thoughts seem insubstantial when she continues to follow him into the dark (literally), which contradicts any sense of true doubt or "hatred." Even now, she has feelings of affection/lust for him after meeting up again so shortly (ex: her feeling disappointment when he dropped her hand for her wrist instead, her heart fluttering at his close proximity).

Part of it I understand that Rin is at that stage where hormones are running amok. But if we have to listen to her frustrations and despair at what happened to her parents then her disposition should reflect that, no? I'm not saying there should be angst-galore and constant brooding on her part but right now, her words of loathing towards Anotsu seem to be more of a front, which does a disservice to the actual tragedy of her backstory. The /development/ to the 'romance' should be the interesting meat for any story that claims the romance genre and so far, I feel there has been a jump rather than a realistic transition.

Besides that, your writing does seem to capture the mood of the manga. I don't have much concrit for Manji and Makie's side of the journey. The way Makie compares Manji with Anotsu and how you used the fire to represent her desire to see the same in the latter were great.

Scarlet are you still involved w/ the story. This is excellent so far, because there are so few written "BOTI" stories. Especially involving Rin and Kagehisa, you'd certainly think there be more. Your idea is golden so far and I really hope you continue this. Loved the last chapter. Anotsu is an ass. lol
