I love this so much. What a wonderful story... painful, but wonderful all the same.

I love that Bilbo braved the possibility of Thorin's ire to try to offer comfort, and that Thorin accepted it as much as he was able.

And how sad that Thorin felt there was no one to grant him the comfort of expressing his inmost fears... the terrors he was able to hold at bay until he slept.

But I do love that Bilbo reached out to hold his hand, and that he had the first truly peaceful night's rest because of it. Because of Bilbo.

Beautiful. Just beautiful.

I've read this story so many times already. It embraces a common theme in The Hobbit and LOTR that you can't go it alone. Sometimes you need someone to help you, to be there for you.
It just broke my heart how Thorin wanted so desperately to relieve himself of his burdens by confiding in Bilbo but he didn't see it as his place.
I don't want to go on about it, so I'll just say that this is one of the best stories I've read in a long, long time on this site. Maybe even my favorite ever. Thank you :)

Great story.

You just have to love Bilbo. He always seems to have a way to make someone feel better. Again, such a great story. Somewhat dark as usual, lol, but not as dark.

I enjoyed this. Poor Thorin really is a tortured soul.
