Reviews for Whatever It Is
Mondler2017 chapter 1 . 11/16/2018
This is just perfect, I'm glad she understood that love was what Monica and Chandler had.
caffinojen chapter 1 . 9/22/2018
I really liked this! I totally agree, Ross/Rachel weren't the "it" couple, Monica/Chandler were. All the things Rachel observed about them are the reason Monica/Chandler worked and Ross/Rachel didn't.

I did spot a few punctuation errors, though. Nothing too bad.

Well done either way!

I love how you write about their relationship. Their romance is more sedate and mature and is was great seeing Rachel realize that.

Perfect, true, well-written. Thanks for sharing!
Izzyaro chapter 1 . 11/24/2016
And that is precisely why I'll always prefer Monica/Chandler to Ross/Rachel. You captured their personalities perfectly here, well done.
ImNotStubborn chapter 1 . 12/20/2015
"Maybe romance is bigger than that." Damn right it is !
I never really cared too much about Ross and Rachel, I don't love the characters (I don't hate them either) and I always saw their relationship as dysfunctionnal and kind of forced at times.
Chandler and Monica always felt more natural, and it is the biggest romantic story of the show, regardless of personal preferences, because it's the one that imo showed the most character developement (even after they were married to each other, through the fertility issues and all that).
Anyway, thank you for writing this, I really liked both the point you were trying to make and the fact that you used Rachel's pov to make it. Thanks !
Guest chapter 1 . 10/26/2015
I like Rachel and all but she was not without fault and she had a lot of them, the relationship between her and Ross were toxic and unhealthy, some may consider it romantic, maybe so but in a lot of ways Rachel was very selfish and she led Ross around by his nose, constantly giving him bits of hope of a reunion between them and then pulling it away and then when he moves on from her, she deliberately sabotage those relationships like with Bonnie/Emily. Ross was not any better, beginning with his jealous obsession of Mark and then lying to Rachel that he read her 18 page letter when he did not. Rachel may not view Chandler and Monica as a romantic couple but they had the healthier relationship, a couple who was not only best friends with each other but were lovers as well, they had fights but they forgave each other and then let it go, they supported each other and was there for each other, whereas Rachel can't seem to let things go, she and Ross will forever have that "We were on a break" thing hanging over their heads. I also don't believe Ross or Rachel will last long term whereas Chandler and Monica will last till eternity.
Katelyn chapter 1 . 12/19/2014
I agree with you, Chandler & Monica did have a better relationship than Ross & Rachel and I love Rachel POV.

I didn’t think you were criticizing Ross & Rachel as one reviewer said, and I don’t think they were the main couple on the show either, it was always equal between R/R & C/M.
Ross/Rachel did not always loved one another as a romantic couple but more often as friends, and I disagree with the same reviewer who said that R/R were a couple spread over 10 seasons, twice that of C/M, that simply is not true. Ross/Rachel for the most part of the series were apart, you can count the number of times they were together, most of the time they were with other people, whereas Chandler/Monica spent more time as a couple than R/R ever did, from end of S4 onwards they were a couple exclusive to one another.
Friends fan chapter 1 . 12/8/2014
Its ok that you like mondler but there's no point in criticizing ross and rachel. Both were different pairings and both had their contribution to show. Both had their scope on the show. The reason ross and rachel are considered to be 'it' couple is because they were spread over entire 10 seasons, twice that of mondler. And that doesn't make them better than mondler, there is no competition between the 2. Both are in show for different purposes. Ross/rachel were the main couple of show. Inspite of their fights, heartbreaks and struggles, they always loved each other. They provided all the drama the heartbreak and the most romantic scenes on the show. Even a sitcom needs its share of drama and romantic drama was provided by them. That makes viewers connect with show emotionally specially in the initial seasons. Mondler came later and provided the stability, the smoothness after ross/rachel drama got too much in season 5. They are the example of 2 forever alone kinds are perfect together. Personally i like both the couples a lot. I only hated1 pairing on the show:joey and rachel. Because by 7th season rachel and joey living together, playing games, almost looked to me like siblings and so, it was almost incestous. Lobsters and Mondler are both great pairings, working in their own way. And i love all 6 characters of the show. So there's no reasons to hate either of the 2 pairing. Just enjoy both. Cause, both get their happy ever after ending in the finale.

I love this one-I've never mentioned that.
spiralnebulaM31 chapter 1 . 2/2/2014
I love all of these little stories you've written, with the other characters' view on Monica and Chandler's relationship! I always thought Rachel was a little jealous of their relationship, not in bad way, but in a way that she admired their romance and she wanted something like their love and stability in her life, although she couldn't exactly understand the whole concept of their relationship, because she never had that. She was jealous, but she was also happy for them, like she stated when they got engaged. She had a difficulty in understanding how a realationship like that would work, a relationship where no huge gestures took place. I believe some of Monica and Chandler's actions after they got together might seem subtle to other people, but to them they were a big deal considering how neurotic they both appeared to be. For example, Chandler managing to calm Monica down in several occasions of Monica not rushing into something and letting Chandler be ready when they took each next step in their relationship. I have a feeling that none of their friends saw that, because both Monica and Chandler tried to keep things between them private, it was like they were the friends they had always been when they were with the others, but when they were alone I guess the romantic element of their relationship was added and whatever doubt, vulnerability and sensitivity was there of the other one to take care of (unfortunately we didn't see a lot of this on the show, so we can be sure about any of this, we can just imagine). Their other friends couldn't have known what exactly went on when they left them alone, so they had to assume that what they saw wasn't far from the truth; they couldn't imagine Monica and Chandler keeping stuff from them (although that's how it was from the start of their relationship when had been keeping it a secret for months). And I'm sure they kept some of their biggest issues private, like how serious it was to be away from each other during the Tulsa-time or how devastated they were when they found out they couldn't have a baby. So, my review is turning to be really long and I'm not sure this is the right thing to do, I just wanted to try to describe my thoughts and I keep writing. To sum up, noone could know how exaclty Monica and Chandler were in their private moments as a couple, that's why Rachel was surprised when she found out that Chandler had talked to Monica and they agreed to save some of the money for their future. That, plus the fact that Rachel didn't get the reason why Monica lived Chandler so much; to her he was just a friend who told weird jokes all the time, but to Monica he was her prince, the amazing man that would love with her for the rest of their lives. In the end, she could see the way they loved and supported each other, but that doesn't mean she understood it.

Love it. Love it so much. Yes, Ross and Rachel are a great couple, but so are Monica and Chandler, and you somehow captured that so perfectly!

I love Chandler and Monica to death. And reading your stories just make me fall in love with them more. Keep writing! I love your stories!
People compare Ross and Rachel to Monica and Chandler all the friggin time - how Ross and Rachel are obviously the IT couple... This just describes beautifully what I have always wanted to say all along and I seriously adore you for writing this.
