I recently rekindled my passion for Naruto, and found myself in love with the relationship between Naruto and Iruka. Naruto has a great many role models in his life (and I love them all), but none were more profound on his confidence and self-worth than the first teacher that paid attention to him. The bond that those two have is so significant because Iruka was the absolute first person to validate Naruto's life and experiences. I love those two together and whenever I come across a teacherly/brotherly fic like this, I am strongly compelled to read it.

This piece, however, was atypical from many others in the sense that it raised the bar. It distinguished itself from other Naruto/Iruka pieces in its unique spin of events and in your own writing style. The diction and composition flowed smoothly throughout the fic and your own personal voice made it very easy to read. It was all very natural to read inside one's head. The characterizations were wonderful and the dialogue in particular struck me the most. You generated palpable tension throughout the story in Naruto's own narration and interactions with other characters, which made for both wonderful reading and good story-telling.

Your work with Iruka, in particular, was superb. I enjoyed his dialogue the most and his infallible kindness towards Naruto. While I think that Iruka is one of the best-intended characters in the series, you really breathed an even greater amount of character and heart into him in this story. Iruka was designed to be the stern mentor with a kind heart, but I especially appreciated the extra step you took in allowing him to bond with Naruto over an impending prank war with not so much as a sharp word or a condemning glance. His actions were so big of him that even I couldn't anticipate the extent of his forgiveness and altruism. Iruka is the kind of person who tries to rise to the occasion in demeanor, and for the most part he maintains his sternness quite well; hiding his past as a troublemaker and a lonely child is just another part of his persona, but I appreciated him letting his hair down to Naruto. It really generated the type of parental/authority figure that anyone would hope for, and that's why it made a personal connection with me, a member of your audience - which is ultimately a writer's highest achievement. It tickled me dearly.

This is really good, but it ended mid-climax. You need an ending to the story to make it great. The title of the story suggests that Iruka forgives Naruto. I'd love to read that part of the story. :)
