That's where the contest entry ends ... Daph.. this writing is exceptional and particular and original. I am in awe at your skills. I mean, I knew you were a talented lady, but this period piece is so genuine and real, it reminds me of a book I once read ( because Rob read it and had rec'ed it in a talk show when he was asked what he's reading) .. it was Carson McCullers The Ballad of the Sad Cafe. And although the story itself wasn't really a pleasant one , not romantic or anything, I did appreciate the fine way it was written. With a sort of detached closeness that is hard to explain. Another book that reminded me of your writing style was Little Bee by Chris Cleave. A hard read due to its realistic contents. All I'm trying to say is, you ,girl, need to keep writing! Thank you for this and I will check out this additional chapter and see where this goes. xoxooxox , laters ;)

I love it, and it's worth the wait.

Edward was lucky his Father cared, and I hope he pulls his head out and realizes that with time. Charles was the exception not the rule. This is a hard no win topic but if done right can be amazing.
I hope Edward finds his place but America may not be it but Europe was for so many especially if he wants to live without limits and without always explaining he is a person not a race.
Still here and reading.

This was such a sad chapter. You made me cry. Even though I know Edward survives and eventually thrives in his own way, it was heartbreaking how suddenly and without warning the separation from his mother and the rest of his family occurred.

I'm sure scenes similar to this have played out over the course of history, but it doesn't make it any easier to read or think about. Lizzie impressed me with her strong faith: "One day this life be over. I'll see my boy when the Maker say it's time." I hope you let us see Lizzie's reunion with Edward. She deserves it.
