Chapter 9- Visions and Memories
Elizabeth's POV
It seems that I spent more time passed out these days then conscious. It really stinks.
And, you know, maybe it is possible for me to have a nice, normal, dreamless slumber?
Nope. Whatever Fate or Destiny had in mind for me, it was clearly not a good night's sleep.
~oOo~
Noise.
Once again, the sounds are the first thing that I am aware of.
This time, however, there is no soft, sweet harmonies, no rising and falling waves.
Instead, I hear dark, desperate screams, the sound of those with nothing left to lose giving into Death.
Cold.
Again, next I feel temperature.
But gone is the soft, gentle touch of an unknown lover.
I am embraced in Death's cold grip.
Feelings.
I feel a thick, dripping liquid running down my arms and hands.
Instinctively, I know its blood.
Motion.
The ground below me is shaking in ever increasing jolts, as if a giant from tales of old is growing ever closer.
Color.
The bright red of anger.
The deep blue of sorrow.
The black of Death.
I know that it will soon be my time to look Death in the face.
And yet, amidst all of the pain, I hear a new voice, one with compassion and love and concern etched into its very sound.
It doesn't speak in English, yet I know what it is saying.
I kóri mou, eíste se kíndyno.
My daughter, you are in danger.
I struggle to keep in a sarcastic comment. No, I just choose to pass out and have nightmares of Death.

You must solve this puzzle to survive.

Look into your past. Discover where you came from.
He speaks one last time, as I feel myself start to wake.
Ti viépeis esý alloú sto skotádi pros ta píso kai ávysso tou chrónou?
It is one of Shakespeare's, from the Tempest. I wake with the words on my lips.
"What seest thou else in the dark backward and abysm of time?"
Luca's POV
I paced back in forth in my room, thinking hard about what had occurred and muttering to myself.
"It's not possible… It's just not possible."
I think back to when I found Elizabeth.
I remember her inhuman scream, how it sounded more like the embodiment of death and pain.
I remember barging into the room, and feeling my anger and fear increase as I see my old enemy.
I recall the feeling that entered me, a feeling I haven't had in a long time, and, in a burst from my past, I remember calling out to Lelantos in my native tongue.
I recall how Lelantos immediately stepped back, as pale now as the two girls he was tormenting.
I remember how his last words before he departed were in shock and denial.
It's not possible, he had said.
I paused in my pacing, once again wondering whether or not Eliza or Virginia had picked up on my language, or that fact that the demon had used my true name. If they realized who I actually was, then everything I had built, everything I had created, was for nothing.
"Bad Luca," I berated myself out loud. "If you think about the past, you will only get hurt. Now, snap out of it!"
I'm half tempted to slap myself, but that would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am going insane, and that is not something I want to live with.
After all, I have what, five hundred more years to live?
I do not want to spend that time wondering if Boiirou is real or not.
The thought of my old imaginary friend brings a small smile to my face.
I catch myself too late and fall into my memory.
~oOo~
I am six.
I am home.
I can hear my sisters laugh, chasing one another around.
My mother sits by the fire, humming to herself and mending some of our old clothes.
Glancing around, I walk into the closet, where my best friend, Boiirou, sits waiting.
"Hello, friend!" I call to him eagerly, then I drop my voice so that he can respond.
"How are you, friend?"
That's how it always was.
Me sneaking away, dropping my voice to let Boiirou speak, only calling each other friend.
That is the first time I began to wonder at things unseen.
~oOo~
Heaving a great breath, I finally wake up from my memory and push myself into a sitting position.
Every time it's the same.
When I start thinking about my past, something strange happens in my mind to send me reeling back into the past, making me relive the memory till its completion. While experiencing this in my mind, my physical body starts to shut down, making me fear what would happen if a long memory were to suddenly catch me in its grasp.
Gingerly rubbing the knob on my head, I gripped the edge of my bed and stood up. Must've hit the frame on the way down.
I smiled ruefully to myself at the foolishness of my life.
You have lived with this curse for over a thousand years, and yet you still cannot even manage to fall onto the bed instead of the ground, I think to myself.
Well actually, it wasn't meant as a curse. It was supposed to be a blessing, albeit one that I didn't want, but a blessing all the same.
I shook the thought off, not wanting to slip back into a sleepless nightmare, and then headed out to check on the girls.
No one's POV
The dark man hurried back into the black of the night. He had just encountered his old enemy, and, as of now, did not want to risk a confrontation with him.
The man felt like he was ready to explode from the conflicting feelings in him.
Anger.
Hatred.
Sorrow.
But, most disturbing of all, fear.
The man didn't like feeling scared.
He despised feeling scared.
He paused, then risked a glance back at the place he had just left, where his trophy and his enemy were both residing.
Someday, he thought, someday I will be remembered.
He turned away from the cathedral that loomed behind him and hurried on his way.
Little did he know, he had been watched this entire time by a young man with black hair and blue eyes, and by his cousin.
So, good? Bad? Horrible? Pretty please review!
Love y'all!
