Disclaimer: I don't own Mulan or any of its characters. It all belongs to Disney. And then some.

He woke with a start. His chest heaving and sweat forming on his forehead.

'Let it be a dream, Oh God, let it be a dream!' he thought.

He carefully snuck a glance at his sleeping wife. Her short dark tresses sprawled over the pillow, her pale hand holding the blanket. He reached out and held one of her hands in his.

Tears unbiddingly fell from his eyes. Ever since the war ended, things had never been the same for him. He would have nightmares wherein he did kill Mulan. Sometimes it was about her freezing to death in the mountains. More often than not, he dreamt that she did not forgive him. Those were the worst ones.

He let go of her hand, wiped his face with the other and untangled himself from the sheets. Carefully, so as not to wake his slumbering wife, he stood and walked to the window. It was a particularly warm night, after all. He opened one side of the window and breathed in a lungful of fresh air.

Movement from the bed alerted him. His wife was awake.

"Shang?" she softly asked. Her eyes having trouble adjusting in the darkness.

"Yes, Mulan?" he answered her. His voice a bit hoarse from sleep.

"What's wrong?" concern flowed from her sleep laced speech.

"Nothing, dear heart. Nothing at all," he tried to reassure her. Unfortunately for him, his wife was not one who was easily fooled.

"Liar," she retaliated.

He sighed and inched closer to the bed. He took her hand and clasped their fingers together.

"I love you, Mulan," he whispered. He bowed his head as he said this.

"I love you too, Shang. I always will," she said to him her unoccupied hand reaching out to touch his face.

He reveled in the warmth her hand provided.

"If I had lost you then, I would be better off dead," he said seriously. "I don't deserve you, Fa Mulan."

She shook her head and tilted his head upwards so they were seeing eye to eye.

"Now, don't say that," she said. " You deserve the best life can offer."

"No, my love. It is you who deserves that. It was you who believed in me. It was you who saved me. I am so blessed to have you with me right now. I would give up everything I possessed if it meant staying with you forever."

At this, she broke into sobs. She never knew that he still felt guilty about what had happened. Though, she did have an inkling, she never thought the guilt he felt was to that extent.

Shang let go of her hand and gathered her up in his arms. She was seated in his lap as he did his best to comfort her.

"I'm sorry, Shang." she said brokenly. "I should have noticed sooner... It wasn't your fault, Shang. It wasn't."

They sat there for hours comforting each other. As Mulan calmed down, she tilted her head upward just as her husbands lips captured hers in a heated kiss.

They spent that night proving their love to one another until daybreak the morning. And when they got tired, they wrapped themselves in a loving embrace and slept their worries away.

The End

Authors Note: My very first FanFic! Finally! Please no flames. Reviews are welcome though. I'm sorry if they seem a bit out of character. This was written on a whim. Sorry about that. Thanks for reading!
