A/N: Guess who's back?..

Yes, here I am, making another appearance in the NCIS:LA fandom. I know I said that I was done after the last chapter but this idea came to me and was too hard to say no to. I am still working on another NCIS:LA fic, it will be an Eric centred piece but with everything that I've been dealing with recently (three shows, moving house, passing my second year of University and travelling) I've been struggling to find the time to sit down and actually get something semi-decent done.

Anyway, enough of my excuses, let's get this show on the road!

Nell idly flipped the pages of her book, fingers skimming folded sections of paper, ghosting over sections that had been highlighted or notes that had been made alongside the text. For as long as the redhead could recall, she'd been making notes in books, something her sister had disapproved of from day one. Some notes were just a word or two, some whole paragraphs crammed into the margins in font so small she could barely reread her own writing. Eric had laughed at her, scribbling away in the corners of her books while Deeks said it was just another part of her endless pursuit for knowledge and reminded Kensi that she still had one of his books on loan.

Despite the comments, Nell carried on with her little tradition of adding to the pages and so it wasn't a surprise for Eric to hear his wife calling out for a pen.

"Here, it must have rolled away," he said, clearing a space next to the analyst on the sofa. "Is there anything left in that book to even go over? You must have it memorised by now. Even Callen knows that-"

"There has to be something else in here!" Nell cried out, throwing the book to the floor before leaning back on the couch, closing her eyes.

Moving closer, Eric wrapped his arms around the shorter woman, pulling her closer. "It's going to be okay Nell."

"I know, I just wish there was more to go on. An instruction manual or a step-by-step guide or-"

"You're going to be fine, Nell," rubbing his hand up and down his wife's back, Eric sought out Nell's free hand with his own, bringing it up to his lips and pressing a quick kiss to her knuckles. "We're going to be okay."

"Promise me?"

"I promise. Want me to get that book for you?"

"Please," Nell sighed, sitting up gingerly and glaring at her stomach. "I can't move with this thing!"

"Hey, 'that thing' is my child!"

"Our child," Nell shot back, rubbing her swollen stomach.

Moving the books to the coffee table, along with Nell's latest favourite book 'Parenting A-Z', Eric sat by the redhead once again, pulling her into his arms and reaching around to stroke her stomach.

"We'll be okay, won't we?" Eric asked, letting his fears get the best of him. Growing up without his father had left him with doubts as to whether or not he'd be capable of being a parent but Nell, with the help of Kensi, Deeks and their 18 month old son, Kyle, had helped to put those fears to rest for the most part.

"We can try. I think that's the best we've got," Nell spoke, turning her head to face her husband's chest. "We make a good team."

Smiling, nuzzling Nell's hair, Eric remembered those words, spoken so long ago, back when Nell had first announced that she was pregnant.

"Wolfram, you might want to sit down for this," Nell all but whispered, swallowing back her own fears, while Eric attempted to put their old toaster back together after taking it apart in the aftermath of another night out drinking with Deeks.

"Just a minute, I've almost got this loose wire."

"Eric…"

"Two seconds?"

"Eric, sit down."

Turning quickly at his wife's voice, Eric's eyes flitted up and down Nell's form, trying to work out what had happened.

It wasn't until his third round of searching head to toe that he noticed the little white stick in her hand.

"I'm sorry," Nell breathed, letting the tears she had been holding back begin to fall.

Without missing a beat, Eric stepped forward, wrapping his arms tightly around the petite analyst as his heart began pounding in his chest.

"What's wrong?" Eric begged, pushing tears and fallen hair away from Nell's face, not giving a damn that he was bordering on a panic attack. "Nell, sweetheart, please, what's wrong?"

"I'm pregnant."

Pushing back, Eric studied Nell's face, hand on her shoulders.

"Is that it?" he asked.

"What do you mean 'is that it'! I'm pregnant and that's all you can say? I ruined everything, I'm so sorry," Nell sobbed while Eric moved his hand to dry the analyst's face.

"Nell, look, whatever you want to do here is your choice. I'm going to stand by you, even if you don't want this baby, I'm not-"

"What?"

"What do you mean 'what'?"

"Why would I not want this baby?"

Pausing, Eric ran through Nell's earlier words, confusion flooding him. "You were apologising and said that you'd ruined everything... What was I supposed to think?"

"I don't know," Nell sighed, shoulders shrugging.

"To be clear then," Eric started, "Do you want this baby or not?"

"Of course I do! But I didn't ask you and I was worried that you wouldn't want it and I didn't want to break this up."

"Break up what?" Eric asked, confused and hardly daring to hope.

"Our team. Wolfram and Ununoctium."

"Nell, I could kill you," Eric growled, running his hands through his hair, "We will always be a team and a baby will just be a part of that team, just don't scare me like that ever again."

"So you think we should do this?

"I definitely think we should do this," Eric replied, his smile breaking out across his face.

"No going back," Nell mock warned, feeling the corners of her own lip begin to pull upward.

"Let's do this, let's have a baby!" Dropping to his knees, Eric began prodding the flat surface of his wife's stomach, knowing that their child would be growing in there, "Welcome to our team, baby."

Looking at his wife, Eric couldn't hold back the smile bursting across his face. The prospect of being a father still scared him, the idea of wearing real pants and attending PTA meetings and dealing with all the emotional fallout that awaited his little bundle of joy when it hit its teenage years were unappealing at best but Eric was willing to bet that it would all be worth it.

"He's kicking again," Nell whispered, half asleep in her husband's arms.

"Nuh-uh, I'm telling you, she's a girl."

"Nope, he moves around too much, he's too fussy. Definitely a guy."

"Well, we'll just have to wait to find out seeing as someone didn't want to know the sex," Eric shot back.

Pausing to yawn, Nell turned slightly, getting comfortable in Eric's arms, "I'm right, I'm always right."

"We'll see," Eric laughed, knowing that this wasn't the first time, nor would it be the last time they had this argument.

Picking up the forgotten pregnancy book, Eric flicked through the pages as Nell slept, soft snores and the sound of pages turning breaking the silence.

Meeting Nell, being with the fiery red-headed analyst and catching bad guys-day in, day out, saving the world side by side was everything Eric could have asked for. To him, she was perfect, she was his best friend, his 'light in the darkness' – a phrase he'd read all too many times in Nell's books.

Meeting the woman who would one day be his wife, getting to know her ad falling in love with her was one of the best chapters in his life.

Actually marrying Nell was even better.

But now, with a baby on the way and new adventures awaiting them, Eric couldn't help but feel like it was all ending. Taking one last look at the baby book, the technical operator smiled at his partner.

Perhaps this wasn't an ending, but rather a new beginning.

Breathing in the scent of cinnamon and fabric softener, Eric wrapped his arms tighter around Nell, "I think it's time we wrote a new book."
