I think this next chapter is a response enough.

When Something's Broken, Fix It…

Epilogue

By: Soniclover28

He leaned against the doorframe that led to the balcony, gazing at a garden that had been decorated with only the finest of flowers. He closed his eyes and sighed, wishing that all of the weight on his shoulders would lose its balance and slip off.

"Sonic…?"

Said hedgehog's ears pricked, and he turned his head to acknowledge his friend.

"Yeah, Tails?"

"Are… Are you okay…?" The fox asked carefully, coming to stand next to his brother.

"Oh, yeah. I'm perfectly fine. Don't you worry about me," Sonic smiled, ruffling the fur atop the head of his twin-tailed buddy.

Tails saw right past Sonic's dead smile. He could clearly see the pain in the hedgehog's eyes, and he could sense the depression and sadness that practically rolled off of him.

"No, Sonic. Seriously, tell me what's bothering you."

Sonic's fake smile disappeared, and he sighed.

"Just… Things in general, 's all…" He shrugged, rubbing his forehead.

"Like what?"

Sonic gave him a glance and sighed again. He looked away, determined not to make eye contact with the fox again.

He didn't trust himself to do it.

"Tails… I… How do I say this…? Um…" He started, and failed when he tried opening his mouth again. "The… The things I did… I… I-I just can't believe it… I mean, one man did what Eggman's been trying to do for years in only three months…" Something in Sonic's voice cracked. "He… He broke me… Turned me into his slave… Used me to hurt the ones I loved…" He trailed off.

Tails wanted to comfort his brother, but he couldn't find the right words to say. What could you say to something like this?

Sonic turned his gaze back to Tails, and for a moment, the sound of a cool breeze was all that was heard in the bright, sunny day.

Tails could barely see the wetness Sonic's eyes had suddenly gained. Barely.

"It's haunting me… It's in my dreams and I keep having flashbacks when I see something that reminds me of him," Sonic explained, his breathing starting to quicken a bit. "I…I keep seeing that… that monster."

"Sonic, James is in prison; you should be worrying about hi-" Tails shut his mouth. He felt like punching himself in the nose. Sonic wasn't talking about James…

He was talking about himself.

He was talking about the beast he had mutated into.

Sonic's ears lowered a bit, and the fox suddenly did the same. "Sorry…" He muttered.

"S'okay…" Sonic replied, rubbing his arm.

"Well, um…" Tails said in a lighter voice, "Ella made lunch, you should come and eat."

Grateful for the subject change, Sonic nodded and they both headed back inside of the mansion.

"-I stole his car and practically flew off of that bridge! I thought that was the end, man, the end; but wouldn't ya' know, that darn hedgehog had to burst through that windshield and 'rescue' me! Ugh! And I was so close! I was so close, Dan!" The man finished. He was twitching in restlessness, practically dancing in his seat. "So that's what I'm in for. What about you, Dan? What about you?" The man asked his brown headed friend.

While the bunch of guys talked, another man with greasy black hair and ice blue eyes was scanning the cafeteria for a seat. He balanced his tray on his good hand, while the other was wrapped up in a cast. His face was unrecognizable from the giant scars that were recently burned into his face, and he had a giant bruise on his nose. He finally sat beside this 'Dan' figure, and listened half-heartedly to their conversation.

"I was helping on old friend of mine make a few extra bucks, actually. Animal fights, mainly. But man, you wouldn't believe what he managed to do, Conner!" Dan exclaimed, after swallowing down the slop that bubbled on his tray. "He caught Sonic the Hedgehog, and made him his pet."

"What?! That's insane! That's insane, Dan!" The blonde man said, bouncing in his seat once.

"Will you be still, Conner?!" A different man snapped beside him.

"Anyways," Conner waved the guy off, "What did you get in trouble for?"

"I was caught at the site of the fights, and they interrogated me. I told them everything, only because of that black hedgehog that looks like Sonic. In return, they didn't give me the full sentence."

"Wow, Dan! Just wow! That's awesome! Too bad for your friend, though. Too bad. He could really use a guy like you, Dan. He could really use you," Conner smiled.

"Speaking of which… I wonder how James is doin' right about now…" Dan pondered.

The black haired man sitting beside him had promptly gripped his tray and swung it at Dan's face.

By the time the guards had gotten there, James was sentenced for attempting murder.

(Tails' P.O.V.)

This entire adventure has taught me something valuable…

No matter what; no matter who; no matter how; anyone can be pulled into darkness.

But they can also be pulled into the light.

In a way, everyone is the exact same.

And in a way, everyone is completely different...

Sonic was never quite the same after he came home. But he wasn't completely different, either.

He talked less, and often stared outside and admired nature from the window. He went on less runs, as well. When someone asks him about it, he simply says that he 'doesn't feel like it.'

Dr. Eggman eventually came back with his new robot, and the whole crew went off to fight him again. That was something normal.

Almost.

Sonic takes Eggman way too seriously. There are no more wise-cracks, no more teasing, and no more just having fun like my brother usually would.

Now it's a routine down to the last 'T.'

Dr. Eggman would make a threat, everyone would meet him and his new robot, and Sonic wouldn't even give him the chance to speak without tearing a new hole in it.

A thought just hit me.

Sonic is turning into Shadow.

Chaos, help.

I'll get him through this somehow.

I promised myself that I would make everything normal again, and that's what I plan to do.

With James out of the way, I can get Sonic back on track with his life.

I know he doesn't like the way he is.

I know he doesn't.

He's my brother.

He's my speed-loving, brave, golden-hearted brother.

And I intend to keep it that way.

Me: PLEASE HOLD YOUR TOMATOES BEFORE YOU THROW THEM AT ME! D: This is my very first story that has ever been completed. The ending. was. terrible. And I'm sorry... I'm so, so sorry that I made this kind of an ending to such a wild story... But until then; the show must go on.

Sonic was a brave and kind soul... He didn't deserve to be treated this way. He shall forever remain serious and depressed, never to return to the hero we all know and love...

...Or will he...?

(Keep an eye out for a possible sequel... ;) )
